Trainees recognised at Electrical Wholesaler awards A


s reported in our June issue, two former apprentices have


been recognised at the Electrical Wholesaler (EW) Awards, becoming the first joint winners in the Training Excellence category. Jolanta Brocka and Oliver Burness,


both work at Newey & Eyre, part of the Rexel Group. Jolanta and Oliver joined Newey &


Eyre as apprentices in 2015, before securing permanent positions. “It’s a fantastic feeling to have been


recognised at such a prestigious award ceremony,” the pair agreed. Newey & Eyre Store Manager,


David Allen comments: “When both


Oliver and Jolanta joined our apprentice programme, they had absolutely no knowledge of the electrical industry, however, their drive and commitment to get to grips with the entire business from sales, customer service and even finance has seen them both become a true asset to the business. “It’s therefore much deserved to see their continued hard work recognised at the EW Awards. Their win really is testament to their ambition to become the absolute best at what they do, and we as a business are delighted to see them win the Training Excellence award.”

Niglon appoints Paul Dawson as Commercial Manager

appointed Paul Dawson as Commercial Manager to drive ambitious plans to double business within the next five years. Niglon is an independently run family company that for over 50 years has been supplying electrical components solely to the electrical wholesale trade. A specialist with more than 28 years’

experience. Some of my family members work in the trade so I had a connection already,” he explained. “I’m pleased to be staying in the industry on a permanent basis.” The company has also taken on another three


apprentices: Matthew Baker at the Barnstaple branch, Jack Smith in Taunton and Duncan Howlett in Glastonbury, taking the current total number of apprentices to six. Managing Director, Paul Wood said: “Devondale is committed to the apprenticeship ethos, and we have seen great results so far. “One previous apprentice, Ryan Peryer is now branch manager of Paignton, whilst Jack Shortridge – who won a national apprenticeship award last year – has recently been appointed assistant manager at our Barnstaple branch.” In a new move for Devondale, a work experience partnership has been implemented with Exeter College.

Rexel opts for Nexus vehicle rental T


he UK arm of global electrical distributor, Rexel, has appointed


Nexus Vehicle Rental to deliver its rental requirements on an exclusive basis following a competitive tender. Rexel, which has more than 250 UK branches, chose Nexus due to its vehicle availability and geographical coverage, and the ability to manage the entire rental process through Nexus’ online booking and management portal, IRIS.


Rexel will use Nexus for short-term


rentals to cover maintenance of core fleet, medium term to cope with fluctuations in work volume and longer- term, pre-lease rentals for new employees joining the business. Nexus will also work with Rexel to further simplify its internal processes through additional IT development to enable its 3,000 employees to self-serve via a stringent approval process within IRIS.
