components specialist. A third of respondents say energy savings are the biggest influencer when it comes to buying an LED light but upfront costs remain a barrier to purchasing. The survey revealed that the benefit of these energy savings is of
greater concern than luminosity (21%) and colour (9%). The findings also show that energy efficiency is the most important
factor for a quarter of Brits when buying any lamp, as consumers seek the long-term cost savings on offer versus conventional bulbs. Efficiency is of particular concern to over 35s, with 37% of over 55s
saying it influences their choice of lighting. Design with a wide range of lighting options (23%) is the second most important factor for Brits. Price only ranked the third most important purchasing factor overall. This shows consumers are becoming more concerned with qualitative aspects such as energy savings and design when choosing lamps. Consumer needs have shifted as they look for ways to become as energy efficient as possible instead of being primarily influenced by upfront pricing. Some 73% of UK consumers are already reaping the benefits of using LED lamps in their home, with 17% of respondents having already switched to LED lights completely.

P
ractical support can go a long way in helping people in the electrical industry in challenging situations
and could significantly improve someone’s quality of life. The Electrical Industries Charity launched the
Practical Participation Programme with the aim to provide this support by getting companies involved and dedicating their time, skills, equipment and materials to support those in desperate need of a helping hand. Once you sign up to be part of the
Programme, the Charity will approach you on an as and when needed basis to ask for your assistance. There are many different ways where you can
get involved and make a significant difference in someone’s lives. For example, the Electrical Industries Charity has recently launched its new Challenge for a Cause campaign which aims to bring the industry together to help transform

the lives of the Dickinson family. Through its Challenge for a Cause the Charity
plans to raise £250,000 to purchase a house and through its Practical Participation Programme, work with industry partners to carry out any renovation work which is required to safeguard the future of Caz and her family. Companies and individuals can get together
to help. One opportunity is to embark on the Arctic Adventure which takes place on 8-12 March 2018, where you will have an opportunity to experience cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and husky-sledding while helping the Charity to raise £250,000. The Arctic Adventure is not the only way
where you can volunteer your time and skills to help make a difference. You can help to build a house for the Dickinson family and make a long-lasting donation by sponsoring a brick at a time. This unique opportunity will see your name/company name engraved on each brick
that you sponsor with the Charity’s ‘Raise the Roof’ campaign. Or you can join the Charity on the 80-day
virtual travel around the world, where you can choose your personal goal for the distance that you would like to achieve. Your distance can be achieved in any way you like, including jogging, walking or cycling. All you need to do is log your journey on the
Charity’s world walking app which will then be added to the Charity’s 80-day challenge. The Charity aims to raise £1 for each mile achieved which will go towards transforming the lives of those in need. No matter how big or small your
participation is, your involvement could make an immense impact on someone’s life and help your fellow colleagues look forward to the future.
