PSU in miniature 3x5in package FiDUS Power announces the introduction of new miniature industrial and medically -approved flexibly-cooled power supply range
Fidus Power, the technical power supply distributor specialising in innovative solutions and new products that benefit system designers as they seek to differentiate their end products, now has available a series of miniature, 3x5in PSUs that can deliver 250W when conduction-cooled or 550W fan-cooled and are approved for industrial and medical use.
Using a two-level PCB construction, the new PSUs feature a baseplate with all the key semiconductors attached, allowing direct cooling into the system chassis, heatsink or cold-wall. With efficiencies to 92% and the ability to remove heat to the outside world, minimal waste-heat is generated into the system and keeping internal ambient temperature rise to a minimum.
The PSUs have a 90-264VAC input range and six models are available with 12 to 58VDC output, plus a built in 12V fan rail. Both industrial and medical versions meet EN55032 level B; the industrial unit is also is certified to
IEC/EN/UL/CSA60950-1, while the medical unit also meets medical 4th Edition EMC levels and is certified to IEC/EN/CSA60601-1 and ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1.
Says Mark Gibbons, Engineering Manager at Fidus Power: “Whether these units are conduction-cooled via a baseplate, convection or fan-cooled, they enable system designers to manage heat generated in the system effectively, thereby increasing product lifetime. Applications include broadcast, outdoor communications, medical devices, sealed enclosures and industrial.”
Free engineering samples are available on short lead-times and all models are backed by Fidus’ 5 year warranty.

to range of advanced fibre optic connector systems Robust design with integrated dust seal ensures signal integrity in materials processing applications and high dust environments
OMC, the pioneer in optoelectronics design and manufacture, has announced a new receptacle for its range of fibre optic receiver and transmitter diodes. On display for the first time on Stand L30 at the Electronics Design Show, the new FDH1M SMA housing with integrated dust seal is an enhanced version of OMC’s popular FDH1 SMA bulkhead housing and is designed to protect signal integrity in fibre optic links in dust or powder contaminated environments, such as materials processing plants.
The FDH1M housing is a rugged, all-metal design with square base flange, featuring mounting holes
in each corner to bolt down to the bulkhead, securing it firmly and helping to resist vibration and strain. As well as being far more robust than plastic housings, the all-metal construction of the FDH1M also helps screen the active device against radio frequency interference.
The new FDH1M SMA bulkhead receptacle is precision-machined and assembled in OMC’s purpose-built facility in the UK, and is available with a range of transmitter and receiver diodes aligned and housed within to form a dust-resistant transmitter or receiver module. The company’s engineering team has over 30 years of experience in the design of fibre optic datalinks and components, and specialises in tailoring their solutions to meet a customer’s bespoke requirements.
www.omc-uk.com New metallised composite 2mm pitch micro connector
from Nicomatic weighs 60% less than Micro D EMI-proof and robust; no MOQ, short lead time
Nicomatic, one of the leading manufacturers of high-performance interconnect solutions, has introduced its new DLMM range of metallised composite 2mm pitch connectors that weighs 60% less than Micro D counterparts. The design also provides protection against EMI and resists corrosion, yet products are available on short lead times.
DLMM connectors are available with 4-32 signal contacts, 1-8 high power or coax contacts, or a mixed arrangement of signal and high power/coax contacts in the same connector body. Devices are available in board-to-board, board-to-wire and wire-to-wire configurations for wire gauges of AWG 12-30 and in through-hole or surface-mount styles. A metallised composite backshell option is also available for additional EMC performance.
In common with all Nicomatic products, the DLMM metallised composite micro connectors are available on short lead times and there is no minimum order quantity. Free, online CAD models help speed design.
Commented Alexis de Lassat, Global Product Line Leader, Nicomatic: “DLMM connectors target applications that require miniaturisation, lightweight and EMC protection, such as UAVs, robotics, space satellites and radar. They are ideal for use in panel mount applications as well as an inside the box connector with extra protection.”

speed Octal Digital Input for PLC and automation Mouser Electronics, Inc., the industry’s leading New Product Introduction (NPI) distributor with the widest selection of semiconductors and electronic components, is now stocking the MAX22195 octal industrial digital input device from Maxim Integrated. Designed to reduce power, system cost, and size for programmable logic controller (PLC) digital-input subsystems, the MAX22195 is a highly integrated IEC 61131-2-compliant digital input device for industrial, process, and building automation applications.
The Maxim MAX22195, available from Mouser Electronics, translates eight 24 V industrial inputs to a serialised CMOS-compatible, parallel outputs with propagation delay of less than 300 ns from input-to- output for all channels. The fault-tolerant, 5 mm × 5 mm device interfaces with 3 V or 5.5 V logic and incorporates a current-setting resistor, allowing engineers to configure the MAX22195 for IEC 61131-2 Type 1, 2, or 3 inputs. The MAX22195 includes an internal low dropout (LDO) regulator that provides power to digital isolators and other field-side circuits, plus energy-less field-side LED drivers that meet the indicator light requirement of IEC 61131-2 with no additional power dissipation.
The MAX22195 also offers surge protection to ±1 kV and ±8 kV contact electrostatic discharge (ESD) and ±15 kV air gap ESD protection to contribute to increased system robustness. The MAX22195 device is supported by the MAX22195EVKIT evaluation system, which provides terminal blocks for all eight inputs and a single header for all eight outputs for easy monitoring and evaluation. Eight field-side LEDs indicate input status, and a READY LED indicates that the MAX22195 is operating normally.
