NECTO IDE from MIKROE adds GNU C for ARM supports more MCU cores from ST, TI and NXP Myriad of new features includes Planet Debug board sorting functionality and easy access
MikroElektronika (MIKROE), the embedded solutions company that dramatically cuts development time by providing innovative hardware and software products based on proven standards, has launched a new version of its powerful IDE (Integrated Development Environment), NECTO™ Studio 4.0, which now includes including full releases of mikroC AI for ARM, PIC, PIC32, dsPIC, and AVR. The update also adds GNU C for ARM, and makes using Planet Debug™, which enables designers to develop and debug embedded systems remotely over the internet without investing in hardware, more powerful and simpler to use. One of the most significant new features of NECTO Studio 4.0 is the natural and seamless integration
Bent Metal Enclosures
The disconnect between electronic and mechanical design has meant that over the last few years we have seen an increase in the number of PCB’s that are not designed with a case in mind. We have seen boards that are odd sized, odd shaped and with connectors on more than two sides. As a result, standard enclosure solutions are not suitable.
The solution that Lincoln Binns offers is a Zintec steel case that has been laser cut, folded, welded (if needed), powder coated enclosure. Zintec steel sheet is metal plate that has been electrolytically coated with a thin layer of Zinc which is both strong and machinable. Various thickness of Zintec is available depending on the overall size of the finished enclosure.
The advantage of a bent metal enclosure over an extrusion is that sheet metal does not have the constraints of an extrusion. Using sheet metal allows for very custom sizes and complex shapes without the expense of a die and a bulk order of material. The other advantage of sheet metal is that it allows holes, cut-outs, vent paterns to be on six sides of the enclosure in one operation.
Lincoln Binns uses Zintec for its strength properties and its affordability over aluminium but all bent metal enclosures can be produced from aluminium and anodised if needed.
The design of the case is done in-house by our design team using SolidWorks either from a 3D model of your board or from us having a board to work from. Additional features included in the design will be self-clinching stand-offs to mount the board, cut-outs for light pipes and full colour digital printed artwork.

of the GNU C compiler for ARM. This extends support for a range of cores including M0, M0+, M3, M4, and M7 from various vendors such as STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments, and NXP. This integration is especially beneficial as it provides compatibility with mikroSDK libraries for ARM, allowing developers to use a myriad of Click libraries on ARM microcontrollers with the GNU C Compiler. Moreover, developers can switch between different architectures without the need to modify their code. Another new addition is the introduction of NECTO Studio Plot, a real-time data collection tool that requires no additional hardware or bulky libraries. With just a single line of code, developers can log data, which is collected in an Excel-like table view. This data can be exported to a CSV file at any moment, which is highly beneficial for data analysis and reporting, and is set to change how developers collect and visualize data from microcontrollers.

One-piece 2nd generation GDBC connectors from Gigalane for complex stack ups in 5G systems now available from Powell Electronics
Now in stock at Powell Electronics, the supplier of connectors and more for high-rel applications including defence, aerospace and industrial, are 2nd generation one- piece GDBC direct board contacts from Gigalane. The simple one- piece design of the components enables a high integration and miniaturization of board-to- board and board-to-module RF interconnections. GDBC series contacts are very easy to use in the assembly as they require no SMT. They offer the lowest total-cost-of-ownership on the market and are an ideal solution for multiple connections and complex stack ups in 5G systems. Technical details of 2nd generation GDBC contacts include a frequency from DC up to 8.5 GHz, impedance of 50 Ω, insulation resistance of 5000 MΩ and a dielectric withstand voltage of 750 Vrms. VSWR is 1.12:1 at 3.0 GHz, 1.22:1 at 6.0 GHz and 1.35:1 at 8.5 GHz.

Powell Electronics Customised EMC filtered D-Sub connectors now available from Live Electronics
Live Electronics, the independent distributor of rugged industrial electrical components, has introduced its latest range of filtered D-Sub connectors. These are supplied by the leading European manufacturer, Deltron AG, and offer exceptional protection from the effects of electromagnetic and radio interference.
The new filtered D-Sub connectors are available as standard components, or can be custom-engineered in low and high volumes to match customers’ exact specification. As Live Electronics’ Managing Director, Luke Hartley, explains, “The choice of standard options is extensive, so most customers will be able to find precisely what they need from our normal product list. For specialised applications or product designs with a unique configuration, we work with the engineers at Deltron AG to develop customised solutions. Depending on complexity this can generally be achieved in relatively short timeframes.”
The standard connectors are compliant with MIL-C-24308 and IEC 60807 (DIN 41652) standards. They are available with a choice of filter values from 330pF to 6,800pF, with the option of 9, 15, 25 or 37 poles in plug or socket configurations, and with straight, 90 degree or SMD contacts in solder pin, solder cup or press-fit variations.
Deltron filtered D-Sub connectors are available with either a C-Planar filter, with Planar chip capacitors, or PI-tubular ceramic capacitors. In each case, the construction of the connector is designed to ensure complete HF-tightness, combined with mechanical stability, high quality contacts and excellent signal capabilities.
