electronics manufacturer! Based in Newbury, Berkshire, EMS is a global supplier of electronic manufacturing services spanning an extensive number of industries — and now a double nominee for this year’s Electronics Industry Awards! With both the company and its Managing Director up for prestigious awards, EMS’ position in the industry is unmistakable. This is a company that not only has a passion for delivering the highest quality solutions to its customers but also commits to supporting its staff and investing in its people. Recognition for progressive leadership — MD nominated for Industry Personality of the Year Running a business is no small feat in itself. But successfully managing a company during a pandemic is something that no business owner could’ve been prepared for, and managers who have come out of the other side stronger deserve the highest of commendations and praise. The staff at EMS believe their Managing Director, Jonathan Plummer, merits such praise and recognition for how he led the company through such a time of uncertainty. As such, Jonathan has been deservedly nominated for the Electronics Industry Awards’ ‘Industry Personality of the Year’. The wellbeing of Jonathan’s employees was consistently his priority throughout multiple national
lockdowns, and he drove many actions that carried EMS successfully through the challenging months. He ensured no member of any team was faced with fi nancial consequences if they needed to be off work as a consequence of COVID-19 and regularly monitored the status of his workforce by chairing a dedicated COVID-19 meeting, discussing any absences and covering off any related actions with the management team to ensure the smooth operation of the business. Jonathan’s ability to address the small but meaningful details is what sets him aside. For example, one of the fi rst actions he took was to install fi re door retainers to reduce touchpoints within the building. Pedal bins were also installed for the same reason. As part of the COVID-19 meeting, he was always the fi rst to ask about levels of hand sanitiser to ensure there was enough for the offi ce and manufacturing fl oor — a minor but essential detail. Voting is now open for you to cast your free vote for both EMS and Jonathan Plummer
Rochester Electronics - The Semiconductor
Lifecycle Solution™ Rochester Electronics has 40 years’ experience as an Authorised Distributor and Manufacturer to the largest names in the semiconductor industry. No other company can match the combination of Authorised Stock, long-term support after Discontinuation, and the Design porting skills to, in some instances, re-create and re-fab wafer.
With 12 Billion semiconductors in stock, available for instant shipment - supporting both active
market shortages and ongoing needs for obsolete IC’s, Rochester has the largest authorised semiconductor stock in the world. As a licensed semiconductor manufacturer, Rochester has manufactured over 20,000 device types. With over 12 billion die in stock, Rochester has the capability to manufacture over 70,000 device types. What makes us unique: We provide a complete product lifecycle solution supporting companies with uninterrupted supply through our authorised distribution and licenced manufacturing services. All components come to us direct from the Original Chip Manufacturer (OCM). All product is supplied with full warranties and guarantees, 100% complaint with the original specifi cation. There is no risk of counterfeit – there is no risk whatsoever. HELPING CUSTOMERS IN THE NEED OF HOUR Supporting Critical Industries: The COVID-19 pandemic brought the long-standing vulnerability of the medical product supply chain into sharp focus. Global shortages of medical products including testing supplies and dialysis materials accompanied the global spread of the virus. Rochester provided essential support to the manufacturing companies that transformed production lines to focus on constructing ventilators used in the frontlines to support and sustain life.

Exclusive to Display Technology, fi re loaded optimised monitors
with touch Our BLO monitors comply with the highest European fi re resistance class A1 according to DIN EN13501-1 Displays are more common than ever and are now typically seen in
public buildings displaying a wide range of content. Displays are frequently placed in areas that are critical in an emergency fi re evacuation. We developed the fi rst fi re loaded monitor in 2015, since then the research and development has been concentrated allowing us to design and manufacture a fi re load optimised monitor with touch. So far, touch solutions have not been possible with fi re-protected monitors. The main reason for this was
the fi re protection glass, which, due to its special shielding structure, prevents the PCAP touch sensor from functioning correctly. Even with monitor solutions with fi re protection housing, the use of a touch screen is not possible due to the design.

Thanks to the close cooperation with our glass partners, we have succeeded in developing a solution that brings PCAP touch and fi re protection glass together. Our Fireload optimised monitors will contribute little to nothing to a fi re with minimal smoke
contribution and no burning droplets. Integrated thermal protection is included in the form of a thermally activated novec gas cylinder that will
release a non-combustible fi re suppressant internally should the temperature inside the monitor reach hazardous levels. Making us the fi rst supplier to off er an independent fi re protection monitor with PCAP-Touch in sizes from 24.0” to 54.6”. Initially available for the screen diagonals 24.0 “to 54.6” this feature will be extended to the complete
series in the medium term.

Driver Monitoring System Solution The OAX8000 is the world’s fi rst dedicated driver monitoring system (DMS) application-specifi c integrated circuit (ASIC) with an integrated AI neural processing unit (NPU), image signal processor (ISP) and DDR3 memory. Most DMS processors on the market today are not dedicated to this application, which means they require added circuitry to perform other system functions that consumes more power, occupies more board space and doesn’t allow room for on-chip SDRAM memory. By focusing the design of the OAX8000 ASIC on entry-level DMS, we were able to create the automotive industry’s most optimized solution. The OAX8000 uses a stacked-die architecture to provide the industry’s only DMS processor with on-chip DDR3 SDRAM memory (1Gb). This is also the only dedicated DMS processor to integrate a neural processing unit (NPU) and image signal processor (ISP), which provides dedicated processing speeds up to 1.1 trillion operations per second for eye gaze and eye tracking algorithms. These fast processing speeds with 1K MAC of convolutional neural network (CNN) acceleration, along with integrated SDRAM, enable the lowest power consumption available for DMS systems—the OAX8000 ASIC and OmniVision automotive image sensor consume just 1 watt in typical conditions, combined. Further optimizing DMS systems, this integration also reduces the board area for the engine control unit (ECU). The OAX8000’s on-chip NPU is supported by the popular TensorFlow, Caff e, MXNet and ONNX tool chains. Additionally, this ASIC embeds quad Arm® Cortex® A5 CPU cores with Neon™ technology for accelerated video encoding/decoding and on-chip video analytics algorithms, along with hardware for image processing, video encoding and RGB/IR processing. Its high dynamic range (HDR) processing capability allows the ASIC to accept input from RBG/IR image sensors and support high quality output, for videos taken during the day or at night, in conditions with widely contrasting bright and dark images.
