Q&A
ladies and mens’ footwear from working shoes to walking boots. So, thank God, it all walks away!
Does your shop sell other items besides footwear, bags, gloves, tights, socks, below the ankle products? Our shop sells mainly footwear and some ladies shoulder bags, which we sell very well indeed.
Do you use an EPOS (retail technology) system in your shop? No, we don’t use epos technology in my shop.
What is your favourite men’s footwear brand/manufacturer – ditto ladies/children’s brand – and why?
My favourite footwear brands. To be honest I could name ten, but for now Pegada footwear from Brazil is very comfortable and looks very good. Also, Mustang Marco Tozzi, Redz, Lunar Skechers, Hush puppies and Grisport
How do you select your products – which criteria do you use/what are your customers looking for?
When choosing footwear for my shoe shop, I always listen to what my customers are looking for. I also attend several footwear shoe shows.
Which footwear/fashion shows do you attend, how do you rate them? Are you planning to attend a Show next year, if so, which one? We attend various footwear shows, because it gives ideas of what’s coming up in the fashion world for the next Season, which is important.
Do you have a favourite footwear agent you can tell us about? Most of the footwear agents that call me, we get on very well with. We have years of business relationships.
Have you always had a passion for footwear? How many pairs of shoes do you own? Do you have a favourite pair?
Yes, I had always loved the footwear business, and still do. I have six pairs of shoes. My favourite would have to be my casual shoes from Pegada shoes.
Any famous customers?
Regarding famous customers, I had the pleasure to meet the actor Martin Sheen, many years ago. A few years ago, we sold hiking boots to Stephen Hendry, the famous snooker player, and others besides.
How do you think the Government could best help footwear retailers at this difficult time, i.e. lower business rates, rents, VAT etc? I think the Government can help small businesses more - I suppose in my case I think the VAT rate at 23 per cent Is very high, by reducing this could help small footwear shops.
Do you have any plans for the future?
To keep going in my business! We will celebrate 35 years in business as of the month of May this year …. Hopefully we might get many more years!
