Euchner launches new compact CTM safety interlock

achinery safety expert, Euchner, launches a new range of compact and highly-secure locking switches, perfect for hygienic applications in food and beverage plants, where cleanliness is crucial. The interlocks feature high-level coding using transponder technology and an advanced diagnostic capability. Information, such as actuator tampering, operating temperature, etc., can be used by the control system to ensure maximum equipment up-time.
The CTM interlock’s dimensions, at just 120 x 36x25mm, make this one of the smallest locking devices of its type. The locking ball actuator on an elastomer bearing allows some degree of used on smaller, lightweight doors with extremely small pivoting radii, down to 150mm. This allows lower-cost swing-type complex sliding access solutions had to be used previously.
Manufactured from strong food-safe materials, the hygienic CTM is feature rich, grade surfaces, special FKM elastomer sealing and INOX 316L stainless-steel rating of IP69K, the switch is completely watertight and can be intensely pressure cleaned. The hygienic version is approved to EU Regulation (EC) No 10/2011. “With all the attributes of the standard CTM interlock, plus additional physical enhancements for ensuring environmental designed for use in situations where cleanliness is paramount, including food and drink manufacturing or dairy processing industries, for example,” said David Dearden, Euchner’s UK&I Country Manager.
The bi-stable guard locking function, with a locking force in excess of 1000N, means that in the event of a power failure or shutdown, the switch remains in its current state, the guard door is either

locked or it can be opened and closed as required, making it much safer for applications where body access is needed or where clean-down or maintenance procedures are ideally carried out without power being applied to the machine. The CTM features clear multi-angle indicators giving ‘at-a-glance’ vision of the interlock status.
