Spandau Ballet had just formed, and the fashion trends of the time were a little dubious to say the least! Most significantly(!), 1980 saw the launch of a new magazine called Process Equipment News, designed to assist process engineers in the pursuit of more efficient and cost-effective processing. Since then, the magazine

has evolved into the multi- media information source that it is today. It was renamed Process & Control in 2000, to coincide with the launch of a brand new website and the first digital offering of the magazine, and now, along with Spandau Ballet, celebrates its 40th Anniversary! The processing industry has
changed considerably in those 40 years. Looking back at the various new and emerging technologies, I think it’s pretty clear that developments in processing have mirrored what’s been going on in the world at large, namely the way we have embraced digital technology on every level. As technology has evolved,
so has the skill set of process engineers, and they now need to be proficient in working with both traditional and cutting- edge technologies. Here at Process & Control, we will continue to help them do this for many years to come. Michelle Lea - Editor

SolutionsPT is committed to not only making the company an employer of choice but also training and preparing the next generation of digital transformation ambassadors. The SolutionsPT Apprentice Academy, which considers the changing face of digital transformation and the continuing convergence of the IT and OT worlds, offers a range of degrees to its apprentices, both technology and business to business sales related. This internal programme works with universities and education providers to deliver apprenticeships
from level three all the way to full Bachelors and Masters degrees. Throughout the course, each apprentice works with both a company manager and a mentor – a recent graduate from the same programme - and is tasked with a collaborative project that they present to the company.

Using an ultra-wideband proximity sensor, Tended can automatically notify workers if they come within a pre-set distance of each other. It is also capable of accurate contact tracing should someone be diagnosed with the virus, alerting all employees who have been close to this individual two weeks before the diagnosis. The company has recently opened a Behavioural Science arm to the business, working with customers during the implementation period of its social distancing wearable. Advising on how employees will connect and engage with the technology to ensure willing participation.

in South America with Toraqua Technologies in Brazil. The company provides tailored solutions to its growing customer base in the water, sewage and industrial sectors. André Vizioli Gomes, general manager of Toraqua Technologies, commented: “We are confident that with its undoubted capability in testing and monitoring of pumps and blowers, as well as network optimisation, Riventa’s products and knowledge will be of significant interest here.”
Steve Barrett, managing director at Riventa, added: “There is big potential in Brazil and throughout South America for our services. Toraqua Technologies are very good at introducing new equipment to their markets and are much more than just a product reseller.”
Using its portable FREEFLOW thermodynamic pump testing system, Riventa have previously identified potential savings of $113,000 at a water pumping station in Brazil, where extensive measurement was carried out on three 515kW (700HP) water distribution pumps. During Riventa’s investigations, findings included, for example, that the pumps were operating with greatly reduced impeller diameters, so lowering the available Best Efficiency Point (BEP) to 75%. Riventa’s FREEFLOW also determined real-time pump efficiency to show that major energy savings existed.
