INJECTION MOULDING EVENT GOES ONLINE

FANUC UK is hosting a virtual event focusing on automation for the injection moulding industry at the end of November. The online event, which will be

hosted between 23rd – 27th November, will allow moulding companies to get to grips with emerging automation technology from the comfort of their own desk. Attendees will also be able to experience a virtual tour of FANUC UK’s headquarters, as well as view a number of exhibits. Front and centre will be a number

of machines from FANUC’s ROBOSHOT automated injection moulding series, with attendees able to view demonstrations from FANUC’s UK showroom. Different ROBOSHOT machines will be partnered by a range of ancillary automation equipment, including FANUC industrial and collaborative robots, as well as number of third-party solutions from suppliers such as Hi-Tech Automation. Tom Bouchier, managing

director at FANUC UK, said: “2020 has been immensely challenging in a number of ways, but the resilience of UK manufacturing and its ability to adapt is unwavering. In this vein, we’ve decided to host this virtual

MANUFACTURING NEEDS EXPORT SUPPORT

British manufacturing companies are already major players in the global export market, with 95% of UK companies sending goods overseas, ensuring we have a manufacturing sector much larger and more powerful than it would be based solely on domestic consumption, reveals new research, ‘International Trade Report 2020’ published by Make UK, the manufacturers organisation. But in order to drive economic

growth in communities across the whole of the UK and the 2.7m manufacturing jobs the sector provides nationally, manufacturing needs Government to offer additional export support so companies can compete in new markets as the UK begins its new journey outside the EU. Some 97% of companies which export in the UK do so directly to the EU, and while manufacturing currently contributes 53% of UK exports, the uncertainty over future trading arrangements with the EU makes taking advantage of new export opportunities more important than ever. The Government has rightly

focussed on growing exports in recent years and its target to grow exports as a proportion of UK GDP to 35% is welcome. To further power UK exports, Make UK recommends that the Department for International Trade should: • Further develop on-the-ground support with in-market contacts, agents and other advisors with the local knowledge to help companies succeed in new markets • Establish a database of overseas companies in target countries to enable effective market research for manufacturers • Boost skills base through the introduction of a financial package for exporters to improve technical capability and provide grants and practical support to assist exporters attending trade shows and similar events overseas • Develop a national guidance website for business covering all destinations UK manufacturers send their workers in order to service products for customers https://www.makeuk.org/insights/ reports/international-trade- report-2020

event, to showcase how automation can help moulding companies from both a safety and productivity standpoint. While there are certain aspects of a physical event that cannot be replicated virtually, the fact that circumstances have necessitated this does hold a couple of positives. “For instance, the number of

attendees to physical events are limited by the space available, but the fact that this is virtual means we can open our doors to as many people as possible...” There will be seven injection

moulding exhibits, and the event will also highlight the capabilities of FANUC’s new lightweight collaborative robot, the CRX10iA. https://rstechnologydays.fanuc.eu/
