rustrated by its suppliers performance and under the direction of Robert Oakley (Jim’s son), Mecmesin began

to manufacture its own range of test equipment and over the years it has grown to become an internationally recognised supplier of force and torque test systems and instrumentation becoming a key supplier to thousands of companies around the world. The focus of the company has always been to provide

innovative test solutions, which provide an affordable alternative to the many higher-priced systems on the market. This strategy enables both small and large businesses alike to undertake quality control checks on their products and materials, without compromising on precision and accuracy. With enviable organic sales growth over the last five

years Mecmesin is now focused on developing its next range of products, based on the company’s new VectorPro technology platform, launching its first universal testing machine at Control 2017, the OmniTest 5.0. Mecmesin remains a privately owned UK company, headquartered in Slinfold, West Sussex.

Fulton launches the most radical change to boiler design in nearly 70 years

F

ulton’s new VSRT is claimed to be the most radical change to vertical steam boiler design since the company pioneered the vertical tubeless boiler in 1949! By adopting a systems-engineering approach to design and using its own ‘PURE’

technology, Fulton’s VSRT challenges the traditional heat transfer and mechanical design principles of vertical boilers. It also boasts industry-leading performance with a 93.5% Net thermal efficiency from a fully-water-backed design with no refractory. With 30+ worldwide patents pending, the spiral-rib tubeless design is a world first and

creates a compact boiler with the industry’s smallest footprint (40% smaller than Fulton’s equivalent 30hp J Series). Its ‘PURE Optimised’ architecture makes it durable and reliable, with up to 6:1 turndown

through its fully-modulating burner. It is CE marked and complies with anticipated EU regulations, with its combustion technology being reconfigured and the mesh burner and furnace designed as a single component, resulting in NOx emissions of <40mg/kWh.

Hydra-Cell Metering Pumps hold all the aces T

here are only two common pump types that purport to guarantee a fixed delivery volume over time and against varying back pressures… reciprocating

diaphragm pumps and plunger pumps. Traditional diaphragm pumps guarantee the volume but deliver it with high pulsation while plunger pumps offer a smoother flow but suffer seal wear that causes leaks and impairs volumetric accuracy over time. Unique Hydra-Cell pumps offer the benefits of each type without the drawbacks.

Having multiple diaphragms in a single pump head guarantees the volumetric accuracy of a conventional metering pump but with very low pulsation, removing the need for pulsation dampeners in many instances. Hydra-Cell pumps are also more economical than traditional diaphragm metering

pumps, in terms of acquisition, spare parts and energy costs. At a given flow and pressure, a traditional diaphragm pump with a 15kW motor can usually be replaced with a Hydra-Cell® metering pump with a 5kW motor. Having a compact footprint, a Hydra-Cell will also free up valuable real estate, so critical in many applications.

displacement pump to its portfolio. This Universal TS pump exploits the benefits of

A

Waukesha Alloy 88 non-galling material twin screws to pump various media containing large particulates, thereby lowering damage to the pump and reducing maintenance. Users also benefit from the pump’s high suction capability and wide range of operating speeds which means that only one pump is required to transfer product and undertake CIP. This removes the number of pumps, valves and control instrumentation, thus contributing to reduced costs and simpler, more compact systems. As a result of the twin screws’ rotating geometry, a

pulse-free flow is created making the pump suitable for many applications such as feeding homogenisers. Significantly, the meshing screws have identical rear and front profiles giving bi-directional flows which enable easy media transfer between vessels without alteration to the pump set-up. Front loaded access to product side seals makes for easy maintenance and reduced downtime. The Universal TS is available in four models each with

three screw pitch options, and delivers flows of up to 4,618lt/min and has a pressure range up to 25bar.

xFlow has announced the introduction of the new Waukesha Universal TS ‘twin-screw’ rotary positive

continuously rated. The BDP pumps in the collection are suitable for use with diesel, petrol, kerosene and other clean, non- corrosive liquids. Transfers using the range of BDP pumps are quick, uniform and inaudible for a simple operation. Constructed from IP-55 hard-wearing die casted iron housing, the pumps are ATEX EExd IIBT4 certified for use in hazardous environments. Featuring an operation pressure of 3.5 bar and a maximum of 800 rpm, the pumps also have built-in bypass valves for heavy-duty applications. With sizes from 1.5” to 3”, and flow rates from 200 L/min to

1000 L/min, these pumps are specifically designed for high volume transfer, S-1 service, fuel tank filling and discharging and storage of fuel. Motors are available in 230/400vAC and 400/660vAC, depending on the model. Bell Flow Systems are the main UK distributor for Gespasa’s range of products.

Metal Detection, X-ray Inspection or both? - Making the Right Choice

M

etal detection and X-ray inspection are long established solutions for protecting against contamination in food manufacturing. Yet as technology has developed it

isn’t immediately obvious which provides the best performance for product safety. METTLER TOLEDO’s white paper, ‘Metal Detection, X-ray Inspection or Both? - Making the Right Choice’, examines the design and capability of both technologies in detecting contaminants across a range of wet and dry products and packaging types. The paper also discusses the importance of conducting a HACCP audit in

determining the right inspection solution, making comparisons with differing contamination, packaging and production scenarios. By understanding how to choose the right inspection technology, manufacturers can

maintain product safety and quality control requirements, whilst maximising brand protection and customer satisfaction.
