EXHIBITION PREVIEW
The Southern Manufacturing & Electronics industrial technology show makes a welcome return to Farnborough from February 8th to 10th
he 20,000m² Farnborough International Exhibition Centre in Hampshire will once again host the UK’s largest annual
industrial technology show; a show whose absence last year – the first in its 24 year history –was sorely missed. With many of its long-term supporters eager to get back to face-to-face business, floorspace has been much in demand and the organisers report that the show is just a few stands away from being fully booked. Hundreds of firms from across the UK will be participating, plus a surprisingly large number of international firms from Europe and beyond. The comprehensive exhibitor list covers pretty much every aspect of engineering enterprise, from mechanical, electronic, electromechanical and pneumatic components of all descriptions, to high-tech production systems, business software, workshop equipment and a wide range of subcontract services. Machine builders will very much be in their
element exploring the thousands of components and OEM parts on show. AS Controls represents Spohn & Burkhardt controls, NBB radio remote controls, Sitec safety switches and Koduct Cable Chains in the UK & Ireland. The firm supplies a wide variety of control system components, from joystick controllers to complete operator console units and control stations tailored to each individual requirement. Also available is a wide range of cable chain products, supplied fully assembled with all components including highly flexible cables, guide channels and connectors, providing a ‘plug and play’ solution according to customer’s specifications. Secure embedded memory products will be
showcased by Nexus Industrial Memory. Its Flexxon’s X-PHY solid state drives (SSD) was selected by Lenovo for what are expected to

be the world’s first ‘all-in-one’ AI cybersecurity laptops. The SSDs are proving popular in embedded systems as security is implemented in the drive’s firmware, which monitors for threats in real-time and locks down the moment a threat is detected. There will be demonstrations to simulate cyber- attacks on the X-PHY as well as a range of Flexxon’s memory ICs, cards and modules. Sensors and monitoring instruments for
measuring pressure, temperature and gas density exhibited by Trafag UK will include the new CMP 8271. It extends the range of the CMP 8270 CANopen pressure transmitter and is attractive for price-sensitive customers with high quantities in mobile hydraulics and similar applications, says the company. ESI Technology showcases pressure transducers and transmitters for the aerospace, defence, oil and gas, sub-sea, medical, automotive, marine, process and general industrial markets. Recent innovations highlighted at this year’s show include live demonstrations of the GS4400 pressure transmitter with RS-485 interface. This range also includes a high pressure and sub-sea variant. The show also welcomes major European
distributors such as Transfer Multisort Elektronik, which has a presence in 11 countries and carries over 500,000 product lines from 1,200 major brands. The product portfolio includes semiconductors, IoT equipment, optoelectronics, passive and electromechanical components, connectors plus much more. From Turkey, Ozdisan Elektronik is the region’s largest electronic component distributor. It’s $35m product portfolio spans semi-conductors, passive components and electro-mechanical parts from over 200 named brands. The firm also offers PCB production and assembly, together with a full EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Service) with 9 SMT lines offering double-side SMT and through-hole assembly capability to ISO and IATF-16949. Three new product ranges will be highlighted by Pneumax; a range of power clamps for the
automotive sector, with adjustable opening angles and inductive sensors as standard; a range of 316 stainless steel products for the oil and gas sector, including ATEX-certified filters, regulators and control valves; and finally, a range of vacuum components, including single and multi-stage vacuum generators, vacuum cups and ancillary components. Other products on show include air preparation equipment, pneumatic, mechanical and electrically-operated control valves as well as a range of manifold assemblies which can operate using serial system protocols such as CANopen, ProfiBus, DeviceNET, EtherCAT and I-O Link. The ever-popular free seminar programme
also returns for 2022 in a socially-distanced format. Among the topics discussed this year, Paul Grabham looks at the impacts of post Brexit and Covid-19 on HMRC R&D Tax Credits. Tim Scurlock of Applied Lean Consulting gives some ideas on how to drive continuous improvement in your business; Graham Cooper offers tips on energy usage reduction in manufacturing and Nick Aitken and Dr Alex Martin give advice on how to handle a product safety incident. Sessions run over all three days and a full list is available on the show’s website at

is among Europe’s most up-to-date exhibition sites, with extensive infection control measures in place to help ensure as low-risk an environment as possible. There’s free onsite car parking for 3,500 vehicles, as well as a dedicated free bus service between Farnborough’s train stations straight to the show. The venue itself delivers a very good standard of services including a free WiFi service and on-site catering. Admission to the exhibition is free. More
