NEWS Handy Packs Multiport, Multigigabit PoE Injector M O

MC has launched new “Handy Packs” of its most popular sizes of polymer optical fibre. The handy pack spools are 100 metre length reels of optical fibre, ideal for projects that require shorter datalinks. These pack spools are far smaller, lighter and easier for customers to handle and store than large standard reels. In addition, they are lower cost, OMC produces the small handy pack spools in house and can supply them with four different variations of polymer optical fibre.

icrochip Technology Inc. has released its first multiport Power over Ethernet (PoE) power sourcing equipment (PSE) injector, also known as a midspan, that enables any multigigabit switch to support high powering needs and data rates, with no network configuration or

downtime necessary.

Multigigabit PoE-enabled switches with sufficient power for Wi-Fi 6 devices and small cell equipment are expensive and not widely adopted. A more cost- effective way to inject power into the network for these high-speed devices is to install one of Microchip’s new multiport, multigigabit midspans between them and any standard multigigabit switch. Available in 6-, 12- and 24-port configurations, each midspan supports Wi-Fi 6 devices’ high IEEE 802.11ax data rates and delivers up to 60 Watts of output power per port in compliance with the IEEE’s 802.3bt PoE and 10GBASE-T specifications.

EBV Elektronik partners with Infineon on silicon carbide technologies

EBV Elektronik is working closely with Infineon on the manufacturer’s silicon carbide (SiC) based CoolSiC technology. The two companies will cooperate over the next couple of years to deploy energy-efficient power devices with CoolSiC technologies.

Fully Space- Qualified 4- Channel ADC

Teledyne e2v’s EV12AQ600 4- channel analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) has been qualified for space deployment. Under test it has proven it can withstand a total ionizing dose (TID) of 150kRad. After comprehensive testing it now meets NASA and ESA

requirements, complying with the stringent MIL-PRF-38535 (QML-Y) and ESCC 9000 standards. These 12-bit ADCs support 1.6GSps data sampling rates on each of their channels, or 6.4GSps across a single channel when interleaved.

There is strong global demand for improved, smaller and more cost-effective power conversion systems, especially for the fast-growing market for electric vehicles. Silicon carbide delivers many important advantages over the traditional use of silicon, including higher voltage operation, wider operating temperature ranges and higher switching frequencies. Infineon’s CoolSiC technology builds upon these inherent advantages of the semiconductor material to deliver efficiency and reliability across a variety of applications such as battery charging, photovoltaic inverters, motor drives, energy storage and power supplies. The CoolSiC portfolio ranges from SiC-based diodes and discrete MOSFETs to hybrid and full SiC modules.

As part of the cooperation between the two companies, available exclusively from Avnet and EBV is an entry-level evaluation board (EVAL-1ED3122MC12H-SiC) from Infineon that is designed to provide engineers and developers with a simple way to quickly try out the possibilities of the advanced CoolSiC technology. The board is ready for use to evaluate the performance of the 650V or 1200V CoolSiC MOSFETs, which will require soldering to the board depending on the user application. Extensive training programmes, for engineers designing power systems, are available within the framework of this cooperation.

Key features of the new Infineon board include the CoolSiC MOSFETs organised in a half-bridge configuration, along with onboard optimised 1ED-X3 family of single-channel galvanically isolated 10A gate drivers, and isolated power supply circuitry to provide the required voltages.

Low resistance CODE RED hermetic connectors

Lightweight and low resistance CODE RED hermetic connectors from Glenair are now available through Powell Electronics, The products feature low electrical resistance and meet NASA outgassing requirements as well as aerospace temperature and corrosion resistance standards. CODE RED is an innovative sealing

encapsulant and application process - invented by Glenair - that provides durable hermetic sealing in a lightweight aluminim package. Traditionally, glass to metal hermetic sealing has been used in the aerospace and petrochemical industries due to the strength and long-term durability of the materials. But glass-to-metal seal

hermetics are much heavier, more expensive and have a high electrical resistance.

They offer full hermetic sealing, better than 1X10-7 in a lightweight aluminium shell (weight saving of up to 50% compared with glass-to-metal seal hermetics) with low electrical resistance contacts.
