Smart New Backlighting Option For OKW’s Customised Plastic Enclosures
OKW has added machining for LED backlight- ing to its enclosure customisation options – enabling electronics designers to overcome ingress protection issues when fitting LEDs and/or light pipes to a housing’s front panel. Backlighting is ideal for a wide range of electronics applications. Numbers or letters appear only during illumination. At other times, no LEDs can be seen because they are mounted below the surface of the panel. Ingress protection is maintained, meeting the enclosure’s IP rating.
OKW enables the backlighting effect by machining small indentations into the underside of a panel. Beneath these indentations LEDs can then be assembled according to the customer’s configuration. The indentations are thin enough to let light from the LEDs pass through the plastic. But neither the LEDs nor the indentations are visible when the illumination is off.
Backlighting is perfect for models such as OKW’s SMART-PANEL wall-mount enclosures (shown in the example).

Temperature-stable small OLED displays for extreme applications
DISPLAY VISIONS has launched a series of durable white and yellow small format OLED displays for use in extreme temperatures. As self-illuminating, they are exceptionally flat and high-contrast in all directions. They are available with pins for direct mounting or with ZIFF connections. Whether it is Arctic cold
or tropical heat, the durable, small format OLED displays from DISPLAY VISIONS can cope with the most extreme ambient temperatures. They work reliably in a wide range of temperatures from -40° to +80°C. Even at -40°C, the typical response time remains an ultra-fast 10 µs without afterglow. This makes this graphic OLED range ideal for use in refrigeration or cold storage facilities. They also perform their duties reliably and for a long period of time in hand-held devices for outdoor use or in drying kilns, saunas or machine rooms. With their self-illuminat- ing OLED technology, these panels do not require backlighting. They are therefore very flat, having a thickness of between 2 and 2.5 mm. These devices do not suffer from temperature-dependent contrast drift.
