ELECTROCOMPONENTS ANNOUNCES ITS ESG ACTION PLAN TO SUPPORT A MORE SUSTAINABLE AND INCLUSIVE WORLD

At a recent virtual press conference, Electrocomponents announced ‘For a better world’, the Group’s comprehensive 2030 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) action plan to support a more sustainable and inclusive world. The plan is comprised of four ambitious global goals: 1. Advancing sustainability: Developing sustainable operations and product and service solutions to reduce environmental impacts and tackle climate change. The Group has committed to reach Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions across its global operations by 2030 and across the wider value chain by 2050. It has set science-based targets for Scope 1,2 and 3 and has committed to the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi).

2. Championing education and innovation: Building skills and fostering innovative solutions with 1.5 million young engineers and innovators. This includes engaging the company’s DesignSpark community to support the development of sustainable solutions that improve lives.

3. Empowering our people: Enabling their people to reach their full potential and thrive in a safe, inclusive, and dynamic culture. This includes working towards 40% of the company’s leaders being women and 25% being ethnically diverse.

4. Doing business responsibly: Ensuring the highest ethical and environmental standards throughout the business and global value chain by introducing ESG objectives to be embedded in employee rewards, supplier objectives and a new sustainability-linked loan. To drive progress towards achieving the ESG goals, Electrocomponents has established a new ESG

Leadership Committee overseen by Lindsley Ruth, CEO. Ruth said: “Electrocomponents has been on a journey to establish and strengthen our ESG approach for a sustainable future. Today, we are proud to take the next steps and launch our 2030 ESG action plan: For a better world. This is an integral part of our Destination 2025 strategy and beyond, and we see the opportunity to leverage our global scale, product and service solutions and differentiated offer to grow stronger, advance sustainability and improve lives. We believe that having a strong ESG action plan is critical for us to become a truly great company.” The company’s goals are building on progress it has already made, with key achievements so far including:

• Carbon: 62% cut in CO2 emissions from premises energy usage since 2014/15 • Energy: 67% of electricity usage from renewable sources in 2020/21 • Waste: 76% of waste recycled in 2020/21 • Diversity: 44% Board members are female including the Chair. These achievements have been recognised externally shown by high ESG ratings, including: • CDP 2020 score: A- leadership category • EcoVadis: Gold • MSCI: A • Sustainalytics: negligible risk (6.2), 10/13,494 (all companies), 3/540 (sector).

www.electrocomponents.com PARTNERSHIP DELIVERS MACHINE LEARNING SOLUTION

Crosser and Weidmüller have announced a partnership to deliver an end-to-end machine learning solution that empowers subject matter experts to build and deploy machine learning powered use cases, without the support of data science experts. Under this, the growing family of IoT devices in the Weidmüller product portfolio will be able to use the Crosser Edge Node software through a simple one-click installation via a u-create web add-on manager. The low-code Crosser edge analytics platform allows users to collect and prepare industrial data, host and run trained models in the edge and take real-time actions with intelligent workflows. TheWeidmüller Industrial AutoML solution empowers subjectmatter experts to trainmodels using

its no-code ModelBuilder, where anomalies and normal state patterns are highlighted in a point-and- clickmanner. Dr. Göran Appelquist, CTO at Crosser, said: “The AutoML tool empowers customers to transfer their data and domain knowledge intomachine learningmodels that generate value for their business. We believe the combined solution addresses all steps in the life cycle ofmachine learning powered use cases and will accelerate the pace of innovation for customers.” According to the company, machine learning is a game changer for the industry because it is

possible to arrange tasks such as monitoring of processes or machines in a way that reduces the required input of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). But the combination of application knowhow and data science knowledge plays a major role in the development of any machine learning solution. And, this is also the challenge for the industry. This solution enables plant operators and OEMs to harness the benefits of machine learning without the need for their own data science experts.

SANDVIK INVESTS IN METAL POWDER CAPACITY FOR AM

Sandvik continues to invest in metal powder capacity for additive manufacturing (AM) by installing two additional atomization towers at the production site in Neath, UK. This expansion follows a recent investment in a new plant for the manufacturing of titanium and nickel-based alloys for AM, in Sandviken, Sweden. With 45 years of gas atomizing experience

and nearly 160 years of leading materials expertise, Sandvik claims to offers the widest range of metal powders for additive manufacturing on the market – including titanium, stainless steels, duplex- and super- duplex steels, nickel-based super alloys, aluminium, copper, and more. The alloys are all atomized in-house and carefully tailored to meet the needs of customers. Annika Roos, business unit manager of

Sandvik’s metal powder business, said: “By installing these new atomization towers – one of which is already fully operational and quality assured, while the other is under construction – we bring our total tower count to twelve, and thereby significantly increase our ability to produce even larger quantities of premium metal powders.”
