3D PRINTING/ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING ENHANCING PRINT QUALITY

Available from Nexa3D, the manufacturer of ultrafast polymer 3D printers, is its next generation membrane: Everlast-2. The EverlastMembrane is said to offer superior print speed, surface finish and fidelity, as well as

high levels of functional durability, lasting 50,000 or more printed layers or

some 25X longer than alternative interface layer technologies, the company states. Building on this success, Everlast-2 is described as a new generation of interface layer technology that leverages the durability of Nexa3D’s Everlast Membrane to deliver enhanced printed part quality. TheMembranes are said to overcome the

constraints of othermembrane technologies including clouding, chemical instability, and doming effects. Everlast-2 brings greater feature detail and smoother surfaces, alongside its added productivity benefits. Michele Marchesan, chief growth officer of

Nexa3D, said: “Everlast-2 delivers greater feature definition and enhanced overall part smoothness. For customers who don’t want to spend precious time on part finishing, Everlast-2 shines.” The EverlastMembrane exhibits consistent optical

transmittance, so the 1000th produced part is identical to the first. It also a tough and resilient surface, enabling parts to be printed with previously unprintable technicalmaterials. Everlast-2 is compatible with NXE 400 workflows and printing parameters, which include dynamic performancemonitoring of themembranes with predictive usability feedback.

METAL PACK RESPONDS TO DEMANDS FOR 3D PRINTED STAINLESS STEEL PARTS

BCN3D has launched its Metal Pack, containing Ultrafuse Metal Filaments from Forward AM, for its line of Epsilon Series 3D printers. According to the company, the upgrade opens up a new range of applications for its customers, especially for spare parts, functional prototyping, and tooling, and is mainly aimed at the pharmaceutical, food, automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing sectors. The parts created by this process have practically identical behaviour to those produced by MIM or CNC and offer an office-friendly solution with far more design freedom, the company adds. The Metal Pack

includes both Ultrafuse 316L and 17-4 PH, and a new hotend for metal, as well as specific accessories, to ensure a smooth printing experience. After the printing process, debinding and sintering processes can be done externally through the current Forward AM authorised network of service suppliers. For the printing process, filaments Ultrafuse

316L and 17-4 PH contain high levels of stainless steel in combination with polymer binders which allows for easy printing. The binder content from the printed part is removed in a catalytic debinding process. The next step is the part undergoing a subsequent sintering

METAL ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING SOLUTION

Wayland Additive’smetal additivemanufacturing (AM) system, Calibur3, offers a wide range of benefits to users. The systemfeatures the NeuBeammetal AM process, which provides manufacturers with access to a genuinemetal AM production alternative. According to the company, this is because NeuBeam delivers on all of the advantages of metal eBeam powder bed fusion (PBF) technology, while overcoming the troublesome issues that have traditionally limited wider adoption. The three core

principles of NeuBeamare: Stability: Themost fundamental issue with

electron beam(eBeam) AM technology has always been the unstable nature of the processes, and Wayland has resolved this. TheWayland team comprises decades of experience with eBeam research, development and implementation in the semi-conductor industry. This has allowed themto address and solve the charging issues that have, until now, restricted EBM processes, with the fully neutralised NeuBeamprocess. Flexibility: This is a hot part process rather than

a hot powder bed process. Calibur3 can therefore efficiently produce parts that are free of residual stresses because the high temperatures are only applied to the part and not the whole powder bed, ensuring free- flowing powder post-build (no sinter cake) and stress-free parts with reduced energy consumption. Thismakes the process considerably more flexible in terms of part geometries, and cost-efficient because heat treatments and other post processing steps are dramatically reduced.

Metallurgy:Workarounds for traditional eBeam

processes have been developed by the AM industry, but these can lead to downstreamcomplexities including time consuming and expensive part removal and post processing. These compromises also severely limit the materials that can be used with traditional eBeam AM. Neubeam can potentially run a much wider palette of metal materials, including refractory metals.

4 DESIGN SOLUTIONS NOVEMBER 2021 LASER SINTERING PARTS UP TO 1M LONG

An EOS P 770 laser sintering system has been chosen by Ogle Models for polymer 3D printing, enabling the production of parts of up to 1m long. The system was selected for a number of

reasons. Not only is it said to have the largest build area on the market in its category, but it offers flexibility, part quality and reduced costs for customers. Furthermore, thanks to optimised temperature management, improved recoating speed and high-power lasers, the build time and cost-per-part are reduced significantly. The EOS P 770 offers 10 different materials, and 19 material/layer parameter sets for the best build diversity. Its dual lasers use the EOSAME feature to closely monitor energy input and ensure dimensional accuracy throughout the build area. According to Ogle Models, SLS is used across

a range of its business areas including models, functional prototyping, pre-production parts development, and exhibition models. The increased build space will allow it to explore new ideas with its customers, and even combine builds for greater efficiency, reduced lead times and cost reduction.

process at temperatures right below the melting temperature of the metal which causes the metal particles to coalesce. The material then reaches its final properties through post-sintering. For example, achieving required performances in aspects such as hardness and strength. The Metal Pack will include one Ultrafuse

316L (3kg) spool and one Ultrafuse 17-4PH (3kg), the Magigoo 316L which is also compatible with the 17-4PH, two new Hotend M’s and the new BCN3D Brass Wipers for Metal. BCN3D will also publish an add-on for new slicing software BCN3D Stratos, dedicated to printing with metal, that will include printing profiles curated for the BCN3D Epsilon Series.
