NEW 4D CAPTIVE SCREW FEATURES SELF-ALIGNING KNOB

New from Southco is the 4D Captive Screw, which features a self- aligning knob so there is no stabilising plug to remove after installation. Additionally, increased tolerance allows manufacturers to install multiple press-in screws at once without worrying about minor height differences. According to the company, this offers all the benefits of captive screws, such as easy ergonomic operation, clearly marked touch points, and the lack of small pieces during removal. The 4D Captive Screw is available in a variety of knob styles, and supports many different installation methods. Standard nylon knobs are available in black, green, and blue, with additional

custom colours available on request. These knobs are designed to be comfortably operated by hand, but are also available with No.2 Phillips, T10 TORX, and T15 TORX recesses for easy

tool operation. Its versatility, combined with time-saving innovations for

manufacturers, makes the 4D Captive

Screw a fantastic choice for those seeking to provide convenience for customers while simplifying their manufacturing process, the company explains.

LAMP ENABLES HIGH-SPEED LIGHT CURING

The DELOLUX 30 from DELO Industrial Adhesives replaces the successful DELOLUX 80 series of curing lamps, further refining the highly customisable light curing capabilities of its predecessor. The new version includes a higher peak intensity of up to 22.5 W/cm² as well as increased homogeneity in its intensity distribution. This means quicker fixation and a more consistent final bond, increasing production efficiency and yield, as well as product quality.

The cylindrical lamp head is 80mm tall with a diameter of 30mm, connecting with a

highly flexible 450mm long flat-ribbon cable. DELOLUX 30 is available in wavelengths of 365, 400 and 460nm, each offered in one of two configurations. The first is in an all-in-one package which includes other necessary equipment, including integrated water-cooling and a control unit. The second is one individual lamp head which users or machine integrators can supplement with the appropriate equipment of their own choosing to seamlessly integrate them into new or existing production lines. DELOLUX 30 has many possible end applications, including LED packaging, and in the automotive sector where the lamp can also be used in chip encapsulation processes.

Baumer hhs HOT MELT APPLICATOR ENABLES HIGH PRECISION GLUING

Whether gluing flip tops or glue flaps on cigarette boxes, adding tax stamps or onserts, or gluing foil linings, applying minute dots of glue with absolute precision is a basic requirement in the tobacco industry. Meeting these requirements, Baumer hhs has raised the bar on precision with its new PXH 1000 electric hot melt application head. “The PXH 1000 is the world’s first electric hot melt applicator with the closing force of an electropneumatic head,” commented Floriano Erario, technical sales manager for Tobacco Applications at Baumer hhs. “It reaches an even higher level of quality in dispensing glue dots and eliminates tailing almost entirely.” With triple the closing force, the PXH 1000 guarantees

unprecedentedly clean cut-off in dispensing glue dots. It is capable of applying adhesives in the 1,000 to 3,000 mPa·s range, even at maximum machine speeds. If necessary, it can even handle viscosities of up to 7,000 mPa·s. With the new electric hot melt application head, tobacco packaging manufacturers can apply not only ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) and polyolefin (PO) adhesives, but also pressure- sensitive (PSA) and fugitive adhesives. It offers a service life of around one billion cycles, as

well as reliability and ease of maintenance. As a result, it meets the criteria for improving sustainability in packaging production because it supports a more stable production process, which generates less waste and whose system components need not be replaced as frequently. Before its release for distribution, the new PXH 1000 was

tested for months in daily operation on the premises of Baumer hhs customers in the tobacco industry, who were impressed with the performance level of the new equipment.

Although initially supplied to users in the tobacco industry, other sectors will also be able to benefit from its high precision, quality and reliability in packaging production and end- of-line packaging.

GUIDANCE ON THE SUSTAINABLE USE OF ADHESIVE TAPES

Afera, the European Adhesive Tape Association, has released a guidance document on ‘Sustainable use of Adhesive Tapes’ as part of the work undertaken by the Advocacy Workstream of Afera’s Flagship Sustainability Project (AFSP). This guidance document is designed to provide

information to end users about the various types of pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes and their properties, and to share best practices for the efficient and sustainable use of tapes. These guidelines aim to help simplify the tape selection process for end users, facilitating less waste

generation across the duration of applications. Adhesive tapes contribute to making products thinner, lighter and more eco-friendly by utilising fewer materials, enhancing product efficiency and sustainability. Tapes are designed to withstand challenging environmental conditions, ensuring durability, reliability, and manufacturing optimisation. By enabling the reduction of carbon emissions, energy consumption and waste generation, adhesive tapes are driving a more sustainable manufacturing landscape. While manufacturers can create eco-friendly

tapes for various applications, the end user needs to understand the features and limitations of tapes to use them efficiently. The document covers various aspects: properties of tapes, best practices associated with the handling of tapes (application, machines and tools, storage), waste management and more, to support the end user in making the right choice – optimising use and reducing waste by avoiding the inefficient use of tapes.
