just 70mm wide and 210mm long, the motor achieves high power density, generating 7.268 Nm peak torque and 3,460 mNm continuous torque, and offers a maximum output power up to 750 W at speeds up to 6,000 rpm. Paired with the compact GB65 right-angle gearbox from maxon brand

Parvalux, a choice of gear ratios including 80, 120 and 160 offers a wide range of output speeds. This is matched with up to 120 Nm torque continuous operation and 300 Nm in intermittent operation. With a choice of bronze or steel gears, the unit achieves 55-75% efficiency alongside quiet operation. The integrated EPOS4 controller enhances the IDX 70’s capabilities with

precise positioning and speed control. EPOS4 is easy to use with tools including a Startup Wizard for step-by-step configuration, Auto Tuning that automatically sets ideal control parameters, plus analysis tools including Data Recorder and Command Analyzer. Set up is achieved via the free EPOS Studio software. The IDX 70 supports EtherCAT and CANopen communication protocols for

integration with a wide range of industrial networks. In addition, the drive system’s IP65 enclosure protects against the ingress of water spray and dust.

design, build and validate a series of digital and physical monocoque prototypes. Partners are Carbon ThreeSixty, Constellium, and Brunel University of London. The target result is the validation of new solutions, paving the way for the development and industrialisation of innovative monocoque structures for a portfolio of new vehicles. With a goal of achieving even greater performance through further weight reduction, the process could enable future Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) vehicles to achieve the lowest lifecycle carbon footprint of any supercar. Targeting a reduction in vehicle lifecycle CO2 by a third or more, the

consortium will use AI to optimise designs, while also developing new materials and advanced manufacturing processes. Constellium and Brunel aim to provide STEP-enhanced ultra-high-strength extrusions made from 80% recycled UK consumer scrap aluminium within the monocoque structure. Production of lightweight carbon fibre composite components by Carbon ThreeSixty will achieve near- zero-waste levels in manufacturing and low weight. GMG’s strategy and business director, Jean-Phillipe Launberg, said:

“Alongside Gordon Murray Automotive’s niche supercar application, Project M-LightEn will enable decarbonisation across the wider automotive industry by shortening and de-risking the path to market for innovative new materials and processes.”
