Experts together: Ideal Heating & ACV exhibit at Specifi events across the UK
I
deal Heating – Commercial Products is pleased to announce it is once again exhibiting at Specifi Mechanical Services events throughout 2023, alongside
hot water generation and heating company ACV UK, as part of their Experts Together campaign; both companies are part of Groupe Atlantic. Aimed at specifiers in the construction sector,
the Specifi events provide a more relaxed, informal alternative to major exhibitions. They are designed for networking and professional development through the sharing of information. Ideal Heating is exhibiting at eight Specifi Mechanical Services events, which are being held in Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London and Manchester.
Ideal Heating’s experienced Specification Managers will be on hand to advise visitors on the latest cost-effective means of decarbonising commercial heating in light of the Part L uplift to Building Regulations for non-domestic buildings, which came into effect in June 2022, targeting an average decrease of 27% in CO₂. They will be explaining how the building services and low carbon technologies that can help achieve this, with a focus on the benefits of heat pumps. Ideal Heating’s new ECOMOD range of commercial monobloc air source heat pumps will be a
key focus at the Specifi events. These heat pumps offer highly efficient COP performance with low environmental impact, thanks to the use of R32 refrigerant. The ECOMOD range of units are available in a choice of six outputs ranging from 14kW through to 70kW. Built with larger buildings in mind they can be cascaded up to seven units - from an external controller - for a performance output of up to 490kW. Ideal Heating is pleased to be sharing its stand space at Specifi with ACV UK. Some of ACV’s most popular products include the WaterMaster Evo gas fired stainless steel condensing water heater with tank-in-tank technology; the SMART ME range of cylinders which can be installed with renewable energy products such as heat pumps; and a range of floor standing combined heating and hot water electric units and wall hung heating only electric boilers. Ideal Heating will also be highlighting its free training courses and CIBSE accredited CPD seminars at Specifi, which have proven very popular amongst specifiers keen to gain a greater understanding of the different commercial boiler heat exchanger materials and the stages of plant room surveying. All training can be customised and is provided in Ideal’s state-of the-art Training Centres of Excellence located in Hull and Leeds. Solar Thermal – Reduce Carbon & Offset Electricity Costs
W
hether a commercial hot water system uses gas or electricity, it will require
a preheat source to reduce carbon emissions and manage the costs associated with achieving safe operating temperatures. As a high-temperature renewable source of hot water, Adveco solar thermal lends itself to working in conjunction with not only conventional gas heating but also other renewable technologies including air source heat pumps which can be used to provide pre-heat to solar thermal. This enables a variety of hybrid applications to be considered to meet the varied demands of commercial buildings, reducing carbon emissions in gas- fired systems or offsetting energy demands to reduce operational costs in all electric applications. Built on or into the roof, or on a frame for flat roofs, Adveco’s rugged 2.24 m² flat plate collectors are
Solar Keymark certified and temperature resistant up to 200°C. A commercial system sized to support an occupancy of 50 will typically require from 12-24 collectors, whilst smaller systems servicing up to 12 occupants will employ just three to four panels. Sized and installed correctly, each Adveco solar thermal collector can contribute up to 1400kWh per annum, providing electricity savings of £300 and more importantly reducing emissions of CO² by 322kg. For hot water, when compared to equivalent solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, in terms of energy generation and cost, solar thermal also offers a much smaller physical footprint. Three Adveco solar thermal collectors at 6.6m² will match a typical 4 kW PV system which would require 16 collectors at 25m², making solar thermal a better choice for buildings with reduced roof space, as typically seen in city centres. Silent operation of solar is also a consideration factor for urban projects. To ensure system longevity and return on investment, fluid within the solar collectors must be correctly managed. If left in the panel it can overheat, stagnate and leave collectors irreparable. Adveco solar thermal systems avoid this by incorporating its patented Drain Back design into all its solar system designs. This gravity flow approach reduces pump capacity requirements and energy use of pump station to a minimum and will automatically drain fluid if power is cut without the need for working components. This makes solar thermal systems with drainback low maintenance with long operational lifespans. Fluid refresh is, on average, required every eight years but may last much longer. With more than 500 systems deployed across the UK, Adveco’s solar thermal systems are an effective renewable which today offers clear cost savings for more rapid return on investment and a proven path to incorporating sustainability into the annual operation of commercial properties.

elaria® fit air/ water heat pumps from
Hoval are specifically designed for systems with high outputs and a high proportion of renewable energies. Belaria® fit delivers efficient heating, cooling and domestic hot water production at the same time and can be used on its own or as part of a hybrid system. Up to 16 Belaria®
fit units can be combined in a cascade configuration, enabling outputs into the megawatt range. Belaria® fit is also well suited to use in a hybrid configuration, such as alongside a gas condensing boiler for use at peak demand to provide attractive price/performance ratios. The units are also easily retrofitted to existing heating systems. At the heart of the design is advanced, modulating inverter technology that enables continuous adjustment from 40-100% of load, ensuring optimum energy efficiency at all times. Additionally, the hydrophilic coating on evaporator fins maintains consistently high efficiency and shorter defrosting times. Further efficiencies are achieved through the use of R32 refrigerant, which has a high volumetric refrigerating capacity and is ideally suited to the UK’s temperate climate. The result is high Seasonal Coefficient of Performance/Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SCOP/SEER) for heating and cooling. Consequently, systems with Belaria fit are considered sustainable and are eligible for subsidies. As a standalone (monovalent) system, Belaria® fit can provide outputs up to 1.4MW and up to 4MW
in a hybrid system – depending on the required proportion of renewable energy.
