BoilerMag XT Top of The Class for Elm Facilities Management

L

eedsbased Elm Facilities Management (Elm FM) have chosen BoilerMag to protect the newly installed heating system of a North Yorkshire primary school. St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary

School in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, had an ageing heating system that was long overdue for a replacement. As a business maintaining the working parts of buildings such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, as well as providing minor M&E refurbishment projects and management of associated works, which often include boiler and heating system replacements, Elm FM was perfectly placed to take on the challenge. Needing to replace the entire existing heating system, including the

distribution pipework, heat emitters, and the boiler plant, with the school still being open and operating as normal, the Elm FM team had to plan and coordinate all elements in detail, and do much of the work out of hours. Isaac Wilkinson, General Manager at Elm FM explained: “Something our engineers have seen lots of

over the years, are systems installed by others where the boilers fail prematurely due to LTHW water quality and corrosion of the boiler heat exchangers. We see heating water discoloured, with sludge affecting efficiency and performance of the system pumps and/or in extreme cases, causing pipework to clog up and radiators to stop heating up properly. As such we recommend as many stages of protection as possible, including using a BoilerMag for that higher level of protection.” Elm FM chooses to recommend BoilerMag to its customers and clients, particularly those who are

technically engaged with what the company are doing, talking about the benefits and the cost advantage analysis of spending money on system filtration now, as opposed to the ongoing cost of poor efficiency and the cost of early system failure down the line. Ideal for large heating systems, Boilermag XT prevents the buildup of ferrous oxide in central heating

systems, reducing energy bills, increasing boiler life, and reducing maintenance call outs. Utilising its highperformance flow technology, the Spear & Jackson manufactured BoilerMag XT

ensures that virtually all of unwanted debris is removed from the system. With its easy to install and easy to maintain design that helps to maintain optimum heating performance, it¹s the ideal solution for those looking to prolong the life and efficiency of large commercial and industrial heating systems. The range is available from 2² to 12² and operates pressure up to 12 bar. With a large collection

capacity, the highintensity magnetic rods capture even the smallest particles and come with a BoilerMag 10year warranty. In addition to installing magnetic filters, Elm FM also promotes regular flushing, sampling and

maintenance of inhibitor levels appropriate for each system, whether subject to mixed metals or according to the age of the system as part of its aim to provide customers with longlasting and robust heating systems.

Panasonic’s New Efficient 4HP MT/LT CO₂ Cold Chain Units

medium and lowtemperature 4HP units. This growing range of highquality refrigeration solutions, powered by the natural refrigerant CO2, now provides cooling capacities from 2kW to 16kW. The units are an ideal solution for a variety of refrigeration applications including chilled cabinets, coldrooms and freezers in food retail, hotels, convenience stores, gas stations, healthcare (such as pharmaceutical laboratories), industrial (food processing etc.) and warehouses.

P

Reliable quality With more than 15 years’ experience in Cold Chain production, Panasonic has established excellent quality control. Its two stage rotary compressor is unique technology and is designed to withstand extreme conditions, whilst also delivering high efficiency and powerful operation. An additional benefit, the compact unit can operate with noise levels as low as 33 dB(A). This makes it an ideal solution when displaying chilled and frozen goods in customer areas to maintain a comfortable environment. Furthermore, the operating range for this series has been improved to operate in outdoor temperatures as low as 20ºC.

Flexible installation The unit has a piping length up to 50m for flexible installation in a variety of settings. Moreover, it has a multievaporator connection, 7L inner receiver, and easy duct installation thanks to its one fan design, ready with static pressure of 50Pa. All of this in a compact and light design makes for a firstclass solution. The units also arrive equipped with an inner

connection for the PRV that allows users to leave the PRV inside the unit, or simply extend the pipe

outside the unit (note PRV must be field supplied). Also, the new model comes with both the suction filter and filter dryer to facilitate its installation and correct operation.

Sustainable solution The solution utilises natural CO₂ refrigerant which is not toxic or flammable like various alternatives and has a ODP of 0 and GWP of 1, making it an extremely attractive refrigerant from an environmental perspective as only natural substances are released into the atmosphere in case of leakage. It also has heat recovery capabilities for additional sustainability. The systems are also compatible with the most relevant control solutions from the market (RS485 Modbus). With Panasonic’s CO₂ Cold Chain solution,

retailers and food outlets can reap longterm savings whilst meeting future European regulations regarding cooling systems.

Calculation software The new units will also be included in the online selection and the CO₂ Refrigeration Designer software on Panasonic’s PRO Club.

important advantages of using SANHA, all designed to make installations simpler. Apart from Push & Stay and the Leak Path function for added safety, all metallic fittings up to and including 54 mm can be pressed with SA, V or M jaws (for their MLCP pipes and fittings, TH, B, F, H and U can be used). Larger dimensions which are not used as often can still be pressed with the SANHA and M profile. The benefit here is obvious – installers can use their existing tools and be safe in the knowledge that

the connection will work. This applies to all metallic press fit series, such as the SANHAPress Gas series. Here the

manufacturer offers dimensions 12 – 54 mm which can be used with all copper pipes according to EN 1057.

of a rolling programme of equipment replacement across its UK estate. CIAT is part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), the leading global provider of healthy, safe, sustainable and intelligent building and cold chain solutions.

N

The units, supplied by CIAT distributor Cool Designs Ltd, offer excellent energy efficiency, exceeding the latest EU Ecodesign requirements for seasonal efficiency (SEER > 3.53 and SCOP >3.20), and delivering up to 37% energy savings compared with EU Tier 1 efficiency requirements. VECTIOS units consist of an autonomous, horizontal rooftop package, based on tandemscroll

hermetic compressors for quiet operation and reliability. Sited on a store's rooftop, the units connect directly to the building's air distribution ductwork without the need for additional components, pipes or cables, freeing up valuable ground space. This design reduces the cost of installation and enables quick and easy connection by the installer. The units specified by ASDA have two refrigeration circuits, providing a highlevel of resilience. In the unlikely event of a failure in one circuit, units can continue to deliver cooling via the second circuit. The CIAT Vectic intelligent control system constantly adapts cooling output to changes in ambient

temperature and load to optimise performance and minimise energy use. This is assisted by electronically commutated (EC) axial fans, which adapt rotation speed to match cooling output with the store's requirements, which also helps to ensure low sound levels. One of the keys to the unit's energy efficiency is its high floating pressure control strategy, which

allows the condensing pressure setpoint to vary according to outdoor temperature. This is regulated by adjusting air flow rates on the outdoor fans. A freecooling mode allows VECTIOS to make use of outdoor air conditions when they are favourable. This allows mechanical cooling capacity to be reduced with 'free' cooling that can be harnessed from the environment, with the percentage of outdoor air introduced varying between 0 and 100%. "VECTIOS is an excellent solution for end users looking for a highefficiency, reliable rooftop unit that

operates with low noise," said Andy Gill, Regional Sales Manager, Cool Designs. "CIAT manages to combine these attractive features with a competitive price point, which we believe is a compelling combination." Energy efficient solutions like CIAT VECTIOS support Carrier’s 2030 Environmental, Social &

Governance (ESG) Goal to reduce its customers’ carbon footprint by more than one gigaton. www.ciat.uk.com/product/vectiosrpjipj/
