A BIOSENSOR PLATFORM CONCEPT FOR THE NEXT ERA OF DIAGNOSTICS The collaboration lays the foundation for a scalable platform that integrates sensing, connectivity, and semiconductor intelligence into a single disposable device. By combining Presto’s next-generation ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) capabilities with Linxens’ expertise in flexible biosensor transducers, electrodes, antennas, and high-volume industrial manufacturing, the companies are working toward a biosensor platform that is powerful, cost-efficient, and adaptable across diverse applications. The platform is designed around these guiding principles:

affordability and disposability for cost- sensitive healthcare contexts

compact and lightweight construction enhanced comfort and usability

digital connectivity for standardised results

industrial scalability supported by Linxens’ high-volume manufacturing expertise

design flexibility to support multiple formats and use cases

BROAD POTENTIAL ACROSS HEALTHCARE AND BEYOND

Designed as a flexible, modular platform, the solution supports a wide range of use cases

– from faster, contamination-free point-of- care testing and discreet wearable monitoring to rapid on-site analysis in food safety and environmental control. Its architecture enables quick adaptation to emerging diagnostic needs while preserving scalability and cost efficiency. By framing their initiative as a platform concept, Linxens Healthcare – Linxens’ dedicated health brand – and Presto Engineering aim to deliver

practical, affordable, and scalable for real- world healthcare,” said Pierre O. Beal, Healthcare Product Strategy Manager at Linxens Healthcare. “We see this as a basis for future innovation in testing and monitoring, empowering providers and patients with reliable digital data at the point of need.” “From a technology standpoint, the breakthrough lies in embedding intelligence

A NEXTGEN CONNECTED BIOSENSOR PLATFORM

Linxens, a global leader in component-based solutions, and Presto Engineering, a leading provider of advanced ASIC design and production services, have announced a strategic collaboration on a next-generation platform of connected biosensors.

faster workflows, enhanced portability for field or low-resource settings, and more comfortable, discreet monitoring devices that can improve patient adherence. In industrial and environmental contexts, it supports on-site testing of pathogens or contaminants, helping to ensure safety and deliver fast, digital results in process-critical environments.

LEADERSHIP PERSPECTIVES “This collaboration is about more than just a new concept — it’s about laying the foundation for a platform that makes connected diagnostics

UNDERSTANDING SURFACE MEASUREMENT IN MEDTECH MANUFACTURING

T 46

Surface measurement expert Dyne Testing, an Intertronics brand, has released a new guide to help medical device manufacturers understand surface energy and tension, and their relationship to adhesion and coatings in MedTech. Why Surface Measurement Matters in Medical Device Manufacturing informs engineers and designers on methods to assess wettability, how surface treatment can clean and activate surfaces for better bonding, and how measurements techniques generate traceable, audit-ready data for process validation.

he white paper, written by Dyne Testing sales manager Alison Fox and sales specialist Conor Kelly, explains how surface properties directly impact wetting, the ability of a liquid to maintain contact with a solid surface. In practice, this measures how well a liquid will spread over a solid and dictates adhesion reliability and coating performance, as well as material options and device safety. It covers practical measurement techniques including contact angle analysis and Dyne ink testing, how these techniques help evaluate coating functionality and uniformity, and how surface measurement data supports ISO 13485 and FDA 21 CFR 820 standards compliance. “Wettability can be measured and understood,” says Fox.

“By quantifying contact angle, medical device designers and manufacturers can see how well adhesives, inks, or coatings will wet a surface. That knowledge helps them select and prepare materials to achieve consistent adhesion and coating performance.” Kelly adds, “This becomes particularly relevant when using low-surface- energy polymers such as silicone, polyurethane, or PEBA. These materials can offer real advantages in flexibility and biocompatibility, but their surface properties make wetting and adhesion more difficult. Measuring and optimising surface energy helps overcome that challenge.” Dyne Testing supplies instrumentation tools for surface measurement and cleanliness testing and analysis, including optical tensiometers for contact angle measurement and Dyne test inks and pens for rapid surface energy assessment.
