Ethernet-APL switch that can be part of a ring of many devices. This provides media redundancy when increased availability is critical.
ABB’s Vortex and Swirl flowmeter families are among the most widely used and trusted flowmeters in a wide range of industrial applications. Designed for exceptionally precise liquid, gas and steam flow meas- urement, they are extensively employed in chemical factories, oil & gas operations, and hydrogen plants as well as numerous other industries. These advanced
flowmeters provide accurate measurements of volu- metric flow, mass flow, energy flow and process temperature. They also output diagnostic information such as device health status, transmitter temperature, process alarms and maintenance information. The robust VortexMaster FSV4x0 is a high-per- formance and reliable tool that is especially suited for the measurement of liquids, gas, and steam. It is partnered by SwirlMaster FSS4x0 that combines the measuring dynamics of turbine flow- meters with the robustness and reliability of vortex flowmeters. Both of these innovative flowmeters provide excellent flow signal detection, while offering excellent measurement immunity from the
effects of hydraulic noise and pipe vibration. For the first time, ABB has integrated Ethernet-APL connectivity in this popular flowmeter range, bringing the benefits of robust, cost-effective high speed Ethernet communications to flow meas- urement. Announced in June 2024, these latest FSV4x0 Vortex and FSS4x0 Swirl flowmeters now extend possibilities for simplified connectivity and high-speed collection and analysis of a wealth of process and diagnostic data in the field.
Plant operators today face the challenge of gathering data from potentially hundreds or even thousands of flowmeters and other instrumentation devices with various communication options. An ideal partner for ABB’s new Vortex and Swirl meters, SmartMaster is a powerful but easy-to-use Asset Performance Manage- ment platform that enables rapid troubleshooting, remote diagnostics, non-invasive process analytics, and many other possibilities by combining operational data, engineering data, and IT services. Is ABB planning to incorporate Ethernet-APL into other instrumentation devices and solutions? VortexMaster and SwirlMaster are ABB’s first devices to incorporate Ethernet-APL technology. However, this is just the start of the journey. ABB is already planning to extend this with the goal of using Ethernet-APL and data from all devices in the factory. This includes Coriolis flowmeters, EM flowmeters, pressure and temperature gauges, level sensors, positioners and more.
