ULTRASONIC SENSOR SETS NEW STANDARDS

he latest addition to the extensive, award- winning range of Baumer sensors is the NexSonic UF300, an ultra-compact 18mm flat ultrasonic sensor with a 3m sensing range and ideally suited to intralogistics applications. The development of this innovative sensor is another example of Baumer’s technological leadership in sensing expertise with another best-in-class product.

In addition to an impressive sensing range of 3m, other key features include the shortest blind range of just 50mm, an unrivalled short response time up to 56ms whilst a requirement of only 18mm installation depth enables maximum design freedom. This minimal installation depth will be extremely helpful in sensing applications where space is restricted.

The NexSonic technology is designed to maximise ultrasonic sensor performance and is based on an ultrasonic processor (ASIC) developed and patented by Baumer. In NexSonic ultrasonic sensors the piezo electric element with ASIC connects directly to the sensor membrane. The result is a shorter signal path and improved electromagnetic compatibility, while

the compact evaluation electronics boost signal processing time and reliability. Additional benefits of NexSonic technology are the adaptive sonic cone which is ideally suited to detecting objects through narrow openings along with smart filter functions, which can supress interfering objects. UF300 with NexSonic technology is available in both measuring and switching options and should prove to be extremely versatile as a sensor which reduces the number of product variants typically required in production and warehousing applications.

The introduction of this new ultrasonic sensor expands Baumer’s sensor range to an impressive six options comprising, the UF200, UF300, U300, U500, UR12 and UR18 all available in different designs and sizes. Thanks to the unique features of the new UF300 sensor makes it ideally suited to sensing applications including pallet detection, particularly on long fork arms, for monitoring pallet stacks and gates in cold storage facilities, as well other sensing applications in the packaging and electronics industries.

Baumer www.baumer.com ROBUST, RELIABLE RADAR SENSORS FOR MOBILE MACHINERY W

hen demanding sensing applications occur in challenging environments such as in the

agriculture, construction, and mobile machinery industries, it is important to install robust and reliable sensors suited to the challenges. Sensor specialist Baumer offer their robust and dependable Off-Highway Radar Sensors which are designed to meet these challenges. For example, their R600V sensors deliver quick and precise distance measurement and are tested according to the highest standards required by the Off-Highway sector. Features such as robust housing, optimum lens protection, effective sealing which meets IP69K immersion and CAN SAE J1939 interface, makes these radar sensors especially suited to challenging applications. For agricultural and construction machinery applications ‘Ground & Crop’ radar sensors provide superior crop penetration and ground detection, while multi-object radar sensors enable individual application solutions, both of which are tested to the highest off-highway industry standards. These robust technologies are designed to operate in tough environments resisting extreme wind, temperature and humidity conditions and so

help to increase machine efficiency and protection against crop damage. Furthermore, the automation of working processes helps operators to reduce costs, for example reducing consumption of materials such as chemicals and liquid fertilizers. The sensors also help users to achieve faster machine development thanks to their easy integration and proven signal processing from Baumer.

The wide range of options include an automotive-grade design supported by a product qualification according to the highest industrial standards, such as EN ISO 14982,

ISO 13766, EN 13309, EN 61000-6-2, EN 61000-6-3 and EN 305550.

The R600V also features 122 GHz design with conformity declarations and certificates for key agricultural machinery applications which helps fast commissioning.

The product is suitable for a wide range of applications including combine harvesters, self-propelled forage harvesters, tractors, agricultural sprayers, attachments for soil cultivation and tillage, seeding equipment, autonomous field robots, rubbish trucks, pavers and spraying and cutting machines.
