SIMULTANEOUS MULTI-GAS PERMEABILITY MEASUREMENTS

T

he new Versaperm MS is a system for measuring the vapour

permeability of O-rings, seals, coatings and mastics against virtually any gasses or gas combinations – with just a single measurement. Traditionally, individual systems would be needed to measure vapour permeability for each different gas. The vapour permeability of every

seal is critical as, although most are great at keeping liquids out, many are virtually useless when it comes to vapours. For example, seals made from materials such as silicone, cellulose, EVOH or PVOH allow water vapour to pass though almost as if they weren’t there. Vapours can then condense on the wrong side and cause all sorts of problems – from failed electronics to jammed equipment or rust. Similar problems can occur with hydrocarbons, greases, oxygen and nearly any other gas. Versaperm’s introduction of a mass-spectroscopy based instrument helps overcome

these problems and is accurate in the parts per million to parts per billion ranges. Versaperm

CHELL INSTRUMENTS MAKE CONNECTION BREAK-THROUGH

W

orld-renowned gas measurement specialists Chell Instruments, have

unveiled a new aluminium pneumatic connector which will create instant time and money savings within innovative industries. This unique and innovative connector, connects and disconnects pneumatic lines/pipes easily and hassle-free. Chell Instruments initially created this versatile connector to meet stringent aerospace environmental requirements and speed up system installation and reconfiguration. “It seemed natural to create a lightweight aluminium quick disconnector after the popularity of the stainless-steel Quick Disconnect (SQDC) version.” Comments Nick Broadley, Managing Director at Chell Instruments. “The SQDC version was designed after visiting a leading aircraft engine manufacturer and discovering that during testing process, when they wanted to dismantle an engine, all the piping (potentially 300 pipes or so) had to be cut off and replaced.” Designed for a range of applications, across industries, the Aluminium Quick Disconnects (AQDC) can be used in hash environments at working temperatures of up to 200°C.
