orld-leaders in gas measurement and control solutions, Chell Instruments, have donated their latest pressure scanner to a Hungarian University’s Formula Student Electric Team to
support their vehicle development.
Having received the latest nanoDAQ-LTS-16 and quick- start cable FOC from Chell Instruments, students from the Széchenyi István University’s Formula team, Arrabona Racing Team, can now gather precise aerodynamics data during on-track testing.
“Arrabona Racing Team are an exceptional group of aspiring engineers, with a proven track record in Formula racing and vehicle design. When we learned of their ambition to transition to Formula Electric and the aerodynamic challenges they’d face in developing their new EV, we were excited to offer the technology that could help drive their vehicle forward,” said Jamie Shanahan, director at Chell Instruments. Arrabona Racing Team is a Hungarian Formula Student racing team, based at Széchenyi István University in Győr. Since its foundation in 2014, the team has built 11 race cars and has achieved various podium finishes in races and competitions. The Arrabona Racing Team delivered an outstanding performance during their 2023/24 season, securing third place at the FS Austria competition, first place at FS East and taking home a total of 13 awards. After last year’s superb season, the university team made the decision to pursue their next challenge in the electric category.
Developing their new Formula-style EV would require a range of advanced sensors and scanners to support performance monitoring and data acquisition. By utilising their new lightweight nanoDAQ-LTS-16 pressure scanner from Chell Instruments, Arrabona Racing Team will be able to obtain real-world data during on-track testing. With better insights on the flow of air around the car, enhancements can be made across components such as the front wing, rear wing, sidepods and under tray.
“Aerodynamics play a crucial role in the development phase and it is vital to test and validate our design! Our transition into Formula Electric required a

ouser Electronics has announced a new eBook in collaboration with TE Connectivity (TE).
For decades, manufacturing has
followed predictable, linear processes. However, the demand for greater flexibility, customisation, and speed has pushed traditional systems to their limits. In Advancements in Industrial Automation: Smart Manufacturing and Future Technologies, experts from TE Connectivity discuss how collaborative robots (cobots), predictive maintenance, hybrid connectivity, and other technologies are enabling the transition to smart manufacturing.
TE Connectivity’s SLC safety light curtains provide finger, hand, and body protection in industrial appli- cations. The light curtains feature an emitter, receiver, and multiple parallel beams with various resolutions. If people or objects block any part of a light beam, the machine cannot operate. TE safety curtains are reliable and smart, with no blind areas,
no programming required, and simple installation. The Blind Mating mobile charging connectors from TE Connectivity are designed for use with smaller mobile robots and autonomous vehicles typically used in warehouse environments. The connectors facilitate charging for autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) engaged in material handling tasks such as sorting and storage. The blind mating mobile charging connectors support various configurations, data, and sensing. TE’s Type HPBA braking resistor assemblies increase the braking torque of a variable frequency drive for faster, more controlled braking. The braking resistor assemblies are built to with- stand harsh environments, featuring heavy-gauge galvanized steel, a wired terminal block, and an optional thermostat. Applications include industrial, variable frequency drives, servo motors and drives, warehouse automation, and robotics.

lot of financial resources, so the team was delighted to hear that Chell Instru- ments stepped-up to support us with their latest pressure scanner,” said László Szörényi, member of the aerodynamics department at Arrabona Racing Team. For over 40 years, Chell Instruments have been providing pressure, vacuum and gas flow measurement equipment. Their products serve a wide range of industries, including aerospace, pharmaceuticals, energy, and motorsport. Chell’s technology plays a crucial role in aerodynamic testing for top Formula 1 teams, enabling engineers to analyse vehicle properties, refine performance, reduce drag and increase down force in their race-winning cars. “At Chell, we’re passionate about supporting the next generation of engi- neers, and we’re looking forward to see Széchenyi István University’s Formula Electric Team harness our nanoDAQ-LTS-16 to build a state-of-the-art electric race car,” concluded Shanahan.
