Automation proves the right remedy for Sigma Pharmaceuticals
Major Speedor EFW installation
T
hese eight Speedor ‘Storms’ are part of a mixed installation on a Scottish Energy from Waste plant
constructed by Interserve which not only includes Hart Door Systems’ Speedor high-speed doors but 15 fire and security steel roller shutters. The Speedors are 5m x 7m and are being installed on tipping bays, their fast open/close cycles greatly reducing odour from the waste tipping process. Speedor Storm has now been installed on a number of
new build waste transfer sites around the UK and is proving reliable and resistant to the environment. Speedor Storm is an energy saving, industrial, high speed door, designed for frequent use in high traffic situations where exceptional wind resistance is required. Used predominately as an external door with a unique guide system offering wind resistance up to class 5 as defined by DIN EN 12424, it is designed for intense use on larger openings up to 6m x 8m. Capable of withstanding winds up to 70 mph when closed, Speedor Storms are of robust and reliable construction.

Watford-based Sigma Pharmaceuticals has installed automated handling systems from KNAPP as part of its long-term growth strategy.
F
amily-owned wholesaler, Sigma Pharmaceuticals plc, opened its new headquarters and automated distribution facility earlier this year, with the ribbon being cut by Pharmacy Minister, Steve Brine MP. Automation has proven to be the ideal solution to meet the challenges of distributing Sigma’s ever-growing business volumes.
Beginning as a community pharmacy in 1982, Sigma Pharmaceuticals has grown to become one of the largest independent pharmaceutical distributors in the country, employing more than 400 people to serve over 3000 pharmacies, hospitals and doctors across the UK and Europe. As the business has continued to grow, its operations have had to evolve in order to maintain its high standards of customer service. Explains Sigma co-founder, Bharat Shah, “I started this business as a totally manual operation – filling up shelves, picking stock, packing it, putting it in a van and delivering it. The operation just became bigger and bigger, and things started to change.

Hart’s security solutions
Hart is in the process of installing more of its steel doors and roller shutters in a number of security contracts across the country for companies within the water infrastructure sector.
T
he installation shows an 5.980 m x 4.000 m shutter which was part of a contract to replace old concertina doors. A further five steel doors and four roller shutters will be installed in the near future.
Hart’s design incorporates a motor drive system with built-in safety features. The drive system has no
spring counterbalance and drives the door directly via the tube. Electric operation can be combined with safety devices such as traffic lights to provide trouble free safe use. All systems fully comply with all current health and safety standards.
Hart’s SR3 Terror Screen solution is also in much demand due to its significant increase in security grade with
the commensurate increase in weight and strength. The range of Terror Screen products, manual or automatic, are all to Loss Prevention Standards as approved by the LPC Fire and Security Board and Expert Group G. Over 20 organisations assisted in the preparation of this LPS1175 standard.
