FEATURE TEST & MEASUREMENT

New thermal camera streamlines industrial inspections

Flir Systems has introduced the Flir T860, the latest addition to the high-performance T-series family

which helps users quickly find problems and make critical decisions. It also features an onboard routing system that works with the Flir thermal studio advanced reporting software to create numbered, labelled inspection routes that users can create from the camera. This system allows users to record temperature data, thermal, and visual imagery in a logical sequence for faster troubleshooting and repair. A key feature of the T-series product

T

his new thermal camera is the first to feature onboard inspection route

software, ideal for streamlining inspections of critical assets, including power substation components, distribution lines, manufacturing equipment, or facility electrical and mechanical systems. By running a pre-planned route through the camera, thermal inspectors can spend less time in the field and face less hassle when creating survey reports. The Flir T860 has an ergonomic body,

a vibrant LCD touchscreen visible from low angles, and an integrated colour

viewfinder for sun glare conditions. The 640×480-resolution thermal camera incorporates Flir’s vision processing, including patented MSX and UltraMax image enhancement technologies to provide enhanced image clarity with half the image noise of previous models. Pairing the Flir T860 with an optional six-degree telephoto thermal lens allows users to inspect energised targets from a safe distance or measure small targets with greater precision. This thermal camera includes advanced

measurement tools such as one-touch level/span and laser-assisted autofocus,

line is its ergonomic design, which reduces the strain of full-day inspections. A 180-degree rotating lens platform helps users diagnose hard-to-reach components at substations and on distribution lines. The T-Series also offers tools to

optimise workflows, including Wi-Fi streaming to the Flir Tools mobile app for Android and iOS, in-camera GPS tagging, voice annotations, and customisable work folders. The Flir T860 camera includes the new

subscription-based software, Flir Thermal Studio Pro. This professional- level program provides access to all the time saving features and benefits of Flir Thermal Studio Pro, as well as free software upgrades.

TESTING LAB RECERTIFIED T

Following an independent audit by The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), MK Electric has achieved recertification for its testing laboratory in Essex

he recertification process involved an audit of MK Electric’s testing facility,

consisting of documentation reviews and the witnessing of tests and calibration processes by independent specialists. UKAS is the UK’s national accreditation

body, ‘responsible for determining, in the public interest, the technical competence and integrity of organisations such as those offering testing, calibration and certification services’.

38 OCTOBER 2019 | ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING The product test centre was opened in

November 1982 and achieved its initial accreditation in 1986. The lab offers MK Electric the ability to cover around 50 electro-technical standards for a wide variety of electrical wiring products. The laboratory now has 15 fully computerised test machines, each capable of testing and recording data from up to three products at one time, ranging from 20A to 160A.

Matt Mato, global quality leader at MK

Electric by Honeywell, says: “Maintaining our UKAS accreditation ensures that our test reports are recognised internationally. It allows us to self-certify many of our products because it proves that we are competent enough to correctly apply the requirements of the test standards, whilst also acting with integrity.”
