intelligent monitoring in the smallest footprint, the APC Smart-UPS Ultra enables IT professionals and solution providers to address many of the challenges with deploying IT infrastructure in distributed edge computing environments and at the edge. The global edge computing market is facing
massive growth, growing at 12.5% annually to an estimated $250.6 billion in 2024, according to IDC. Schneider Electric said the proliferation of digital
technologies and smart applications is driving the need for compute, network, and storage resources that are localised and in close proximity to enable
business critical processes and experiences that rely on network connectivity to the cloud. Yet, configuring, deploying, and maintaining the supporting IT infrastructure for multiple,
BGEN commits to recruit, retain and support more female employees
B
GEN, a specialist, multi-discipline engineering solutions business, has outlined plans to support the recruitment and retention of female
employees across the business. Central to the company’s commitment is the creation of a women’s
forum to drive meaningful change across the business. At the same time, the company has launched enhanced adoption, maternity, and shared parental leave packages, and signed up to the industry-backed ‘Inspiring Women’ pledge, to help create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment. Robin Whitehead, chief executive at BGEN, said: “Women are
underrepresented in our industry, and while we may not be able to fix this problem overnight, we’re determined to play our part. “We have talented female employees across our business, and with
their help, we’re keen to make our business a more diverse, equitable and inclusive environment.” The BGEN women’s forum has been established to identify and fully
understand attitudes around women in engineering as well as looking at issues regarding representation of women in the wider industry. The forum is open to all female employees. One key outcome of the women’s forum to date has seen BGEN launch
enhanced packages for adoption, maternity, and shared parental leave. Eligible employees will now receive 29 weeks on full pay, followed by 10 weeks on statutory pay. This is a significant uplift on the industry standard package of six week on 90% full pay, followed by 33 weeks on statutory pay. In addition, the packages include optional paid ‘keep in touch’ meetings and a phased introduction back to work. Michelle Stott, HR director at BGEN, said: “We believe these enhanced
packages are at the forefront of what companies in our industry are offering their employees. “In determining
these enhanced packages, we looked at the support offered by other leading national and international companies outside of our industry.”

chneider Electric has introduced in Europe APC Smart-UPS Ultra, the industry’s first 3kW
geographically dispersed sites comes with unique challenges. Tarunjeet Sarao, senior vice president,
transactional & edge line of business at Schneider Electric, said: “To meet the digital demands of the future, local, regional and cloud data centres must be designed to be sustainable, resilient, efficient and adaptable. “Schneider Electric continues to innovate and
respond to customer needs with the introduction of the APC Smart-UPS Ultra. “The first of its kind, APC Smart-UPS Ultra is
redefining the single-phase UPS, making it lighter and more powerful with the next generation semiconductor technology. In addition, it uses lithium-ion technology to power distributed IT and edge computing sites to ensure our digital life is on.”
Seaward launches all-in-one solution for solar PV commissioning tests and I-V curve analysis
T
he fast and effective performance, safety and diagnostic testing of
solar PV installations is provided by the lightweight and compact PV200/210 test instrument, now available from Seaward. Combining accurate I-V curve
analysis with essential electrical testing and using a push button operation, the battery-operated multi- function PV200/210 undertakes all the electrical commissioning tests required by IEC 62446. These include open circuit voltage, short circuit current, maximum power point voltage, current and power, and insulation resistance. Alongside the electrical tests, the
instrument can also perform I-V curve measurements in accordance with IEC 61829 to determine if the measured curve deviates from the expected profile, highlighting the need for any further analysis or fault
finding. The fill factor of PV systems can also be assessed. For detailed analysis, measured
data can be transferred instantly from the test instrument to an accompanying PV mobile android app using wireless connectivity (NFC) to create high-definition colour displays of the I-V and power curves for individual PV modules or strings. In this way, the accurate visual comparison of curve shapes can be used for the immediate identification of potential problems such as shading, defective cells or poor electrical connections. Data can also be exported instantly to head office for further analysis and investigation. Wireless connectivity between the
PV200/210 and the Solar Survey 200R meter also enables real-time irradiance to be displayed and measured at the same time as electrical testing is being undertaken.
