WHOLESALE ENERGY SAVINGS FOR TRANSGOURMET
Pyrometers for high temperatures and various fieldbuses
F
luke Process Instruments extends its Thermalert 4.0 spot pyrometer series, adding new shortwave versions
and various additional interface options. The compact, extremely robust infrared thermometers provide noncontact, automatic temperature monitoring. Three new spectral models measuring at wavelengths of 1 !m, 1.6 !m, and 2.3 !m have been primarily designed for high- temperature applications and are particularly suitable for monitoring metal, steel, and glass. The full Thermalert 4.0 lineup covers measuring temperatures between -40 °C and 2300 °C and offers various different spectral models and focus distances. All models are now available with connectivity options for Ethernet, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET IO, in addition to analog or RS485 interfaces. Voltage can be supplied via Power over Ethernet (PoE). The Thermalert 4.0 series features an outstanding high maximum operating temperature of 85 °C. Users can therefore save costs by setting up many measuring points without cooling.

to leading food outlets. The wholesaler required a state-of-the-art lighting solution for its new 25,000"m warehouse facility in St Loubes, western France, to save energy and provide a high-quality working environment. Leading lighting solutions provider, Sylvania, specified its SylSmart intelligent lighting system for the facility. TransGourmet’s new warehouse space will allow the business to grow and expand into the new space, with the long-term strategy for the business to maximise the space for the next 20 years. With a goal to provide a modern and efficient working space, the Sylvania system has the capacity to save up to 90% energy savings on previous systems.
T
The solution selected by TransGourmet was one that utilised " LED fixtures with embedded SylSmart intelligence. There are over 1,200 fixtures throughout the warehouse, mounted at heights ranging from 2.5m to 15m.
Each of the fixtures contains a SylSmart intelligent sensor that wirelessly communicates with all the other fixtures. This provides a reliable, robust method of controlling the lighting to provide excellent occupancy comfort, whilst also delivering superb energy efficiency – leading to significant saving on utility expenditure. With the inbuilt capability of daylight sensing, natural light at the warehouse is considered by each fixture, and an appropriate light level is produced.
The sensors are embedded into the fixtures during manufacture and communicate wirelessly with other luminaires in the property. This ensures no additional cabling or installation work is needed, which significantly speeds up the installation process and helps to save the business expenses for down time in the warehouse.

Glamox supplies energy efficient LED lighting to Team Brittania’s superboat Excalibur
includes Glamox Series 60 LED navigation lights and TL50 LED luminaires.
L
Team Britannia is a multi-million pound British bid to design and build the fastest and most fuel efficient semi-wave slicing superboat to circumnavigate the globe for the much-coveted UIM world record, currently held by the New Zealander Pete Bethune at 60 days 23 hours 49 minutes.
The decision to fit energy efficient LED lighting is just one of the many ‘green’ measures taken by the crew to reduce the impact of the record attempt. The superboat’s design is based on a revolutionary semi-wave slicing design by Professor Bob Cripps which will reduce fuel consumption by up to 30 per cent. The marine-grade aluminium construction of the boat is fully recyclable.
In order to meet the ‘green’ design specification of the superboat and to withstand the rigours of the round the world record attempt, every supplier, material, product and onboard equipment were carefully selected by the crew.
The Aqua Signal Series 60 from Glamox is a long-life LED navigation light with integrated countdown system. These navigation lights eliminate any concerns about failing lanterns. Series 60 navigation lights are designed to last for 100,000 hours at an ambient temperature of 45°C – that’s twice the life of most competing products.
The TL50 LED luminaire is designed to meet maritime requirements and to reduce energy consumption. The combination of materials and lighting design ensures excellent heat management and a long lifetime, making it suitable for a wide range of outdoor marine lighting applications such as workshops, stores and passageways.
Tommy Stranden, General Manager of Glamox commented: “Glamox is delighted to support Team Britannia’s round the world record attempt, as we see the boat as a symbol for the future of the maritime industry. A future where technological innovation will help to enhance productivity while minimising the impact on the environment. Our energy efficient LED lighting products and smart light management solutions are an important part of this future.”
