NEW HEAVY-USE USB CHARGER LAUNCHED T
OE Electrics has released an updated version of its TUF USB charger – designed for heavy use areas such as offices, universities and airport terminals
UF offers a combination of USB-A and USB-C ports with fast charge
times for mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. In addition to its ability to fast-charge
mobile devices, TUF has enhanced ease of use and durability. It has a reversible USB-A port so there is no ‘upside down’ for a USB cable, reducing the chance of damage from incorrect insertion. USB-C is already reversible by design, resulting in a user-friendly charging solution, whichever charging method is used. OE Electrics successfully tested
in-house the USB-A port to over 60,000 insertions (plugging and unplugging), which is 60 times more durable than the industry standard for USB-A and six times more durable than the industry standard for USB-C. Tim Hobbs, co-founder and technical
director of OE Electrics, says: “TUF is ideal for office environments and public space
areas where damaged ports need to be changed quickly and a more durable solution is required. Our new version of TUF enables users to be confident in terms of much faster charging times and greater product durability.” Since 2017, TUF has been housed in a
patented, replaceable cartridge, which allows damaged USB ports to be replaced immediately, without having to turn off the mains power. TUF has been designed for areas where
USB ports are often subjected to a certain level of abuse, from mis-insertion of cables to insertion of foreign objects, such as chewing gum. TUF’s replaceable element allows the upgrading of existing TUF cartridges. The new model TUF incorporates power delivery in the USB-C port, providing up to 25W to quickly charge even large devices. Existing users can order the new power delivery TUF cartridge to replace their
existing TUF USB ports. Extrapolated across an entire office or multiple offices, and public spaces, this proves a much more cost-effective option than having to purchase entirely new products, and results in much less waste going to landfill.
