H

ello and welcome to the November issue of Electrical Engineering magazine, the final issue to be published in 2020, and what a year it has been… With the global pandemic causing a lengthy national lockdown (which is currently reinstated in the UK), all kinds of PPE shortages, supply

chain chaos, total upheaval and transformation of manufacturing processes, and an unending uncertainty, it’s been a tough one for all. Of course, it’s not been all doom and gloom, and the lockdowns and restrictions have forced people to look at different ways of working, kinder to the environment and to each other, as we all work together to fumble our way through and out the other side. I’ve come around to an optimistic view, and will continue to publish positive news of partnerships, collaboration and green steps forward. With this is mind, in this month’s issue we have investigated the news and stories coming from the

coalface of the industry, from Cabling & Cable Management to Surge and Circuit Protection. We have an in-depth feature on Electric Vehicles and identify the new technologies from this market, and surmise how more accessible and mainstream it will and can become, particularly after government announcements and targets to transform the automotive industry. We also look at UPS and Standby Power, detailing a fantastic case study of a £300 million Victorian house complex, and offer advice on the best tools to help calculate, manage and monitor UPS power consumption. As we won’t be publishing again until January, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very

happy Christmas, and a healthy and happy new year. I hope you all have a chance for a break, some time spent with family or friends, or a moment of peace out in the natural world. I believe that if the industry comes back revitalised, we can work together for a productive, healthy and successful 2021. If you would like to write for the magazine on any given topic within the industry then please don't

hesitate to get in touch. This is your industry and I want to offer you a platform to speak and engage with opinions from the marketplace. Please email nmarriott@datateam.co.uk or call 01622 699 194 to discuss editorial opportunities. In the meantime, please enjoy reading this issue of Electrical Engineering. I hope you find it
