Self-assembly connectors boost options for custom cable assemblies
H
arting has expanded its har-flex connector family with the addition of individual cable
connectors for the self-assembly of custom cable assemblies. The self-assembly connectors offer customers flexibility and versatility in the connection of PCBs using custom-length cable assemblies. They address the need for flexible solutions and shorter response times. The har-flex connector family is a general-
purpose PCB connector series for internal and external device connectivity. The continuous scalability by an even number of contacts - for example, from six to 100 - of the mezzanine connector series forms a suitable basis for customised applications. The connector is optimised to suit specific applications on the device PCB, while also covering the medium and small-scale volume range that is typical for the production of industrial devices. This flexibility turns an individual design into a standard component. No special tooling changes are needed for customer-specific solutions, allowing short delivery times to be realised. The new 1.27mm pitch connectors are equipped with proven IDC (Insulation Displacement Connection) termination technology. This
makes electrical contact via insulation displacement contacts that cut through the jacket of the ribbon cable and establish a secure, gas-tight connection. Thanks to guide grooves incorporated into the
insulating moulding, the ribbon cable is securely and precisely guided through the cable duct. As a result, the individual stranded wires of the ribbon cable always contact the correct insulation displacement terminal. The connectors are designed for use with 30AWG ribbon cable. The new har-flex developments are
complemented by a 2.54 mm pitch version of the har-flexicon miniature rapid-connection system, for printed circuit boards incorporating surface-mount devices. har-flexicon enables the flexible, field-installable rapid connection of individual wires with push-in spring-force termination technology, as well as providing a stable basis for surface mount connectivity. It is tailored to the market demand for screwless rapid termination technology and economical processing for miniature electronic assemblies, and is designed to be compatible with SMT and reflow soldering processes, as well as with
automatic loading systems using pick-and- place technology. Rigid and flexible conductors are available
with cross-sections from 0.14 to 0.5mm². Straight and angled components with two to 12 positions are available for the PCB. For cross- sections up to 2.5mm², reflow products with push-in spring force termination technology with a pitch of 3.50/3.81mm and 5.00/5.08mm are available as PCB terminals and PCB connectors.
