Data centres have a sell by date by which upgrades need to take place. Love it or loath it, the infrastructure of a data centre does require equipment to be replaced at least every 10 years. WHAT ELSE? UPS systems require regular firmware upgrades, battery impedance and load banking. Large UPS systems require load banking in the same way that generators do. It is important to ask: when was the last time this was implemented? On the same basis, have you carried out a mechanical survey of your A/C systems? You may have a ‘state-of-the- art’ DC and yet if the A/C fails you will experience downtime, whatever your power protection system has to offer. What is next to worry about?
Transformers. Have you recently checked them for any phase shift? Whilst you may feel comfortable so far, we can also look at the fire suppression systems. When were these last upgraded?
