Southern Manufacturing & Electronics is back

On February 7-9, Southern Manufacturing & Electronics will take place at the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre. As usual, it will feature a mix of electrical/electronic and mechanical engineering products and services in approximately equal measure

T

he exhibition is not just a showcase for industry and engineering in the UK and Ireland, but also a venue for companies from

continental Europe and further afield to present their latest technologies. The enormous diversity of exhibitors and their

offerings ensures the event’s reputation as one of the most important and comprehensive engineering shows in the UK. It is certainly the largest and the longest running annual exhibition, having taken place every year since 1998 except in 2021, when it was cancelled due to Covid-19. Over its 25-year history, the exhibition has grown

continuously from a small, regional show to one of international significance, attracting visitors and exhibitors from all over the world. In 2020, just before the pandemic, it hosted nearly 800 companies and attracted more than 9,000 visitors. Many exhibitors have supported the show since the beginning and have booked stands again for 2023. Having in one place the best of electrical and

electronic engineering as well as mechanical engineering, all operating at the cutting edge of technology and innovating across numerous sectors, makes it a stand-out event for addressing multiple sourcing requirements efficiently. Despite the variety of technologies and services around the showground, there are no barriers between the areas. Visitors are therefore able to move freely between the different engineering disciplines and perhaps discover unfamiliar technologies and services that were not on their original shopping list. The overarching feature of Southern has always

been its coverage of just about every element of electrical and electronics production and test. An incredible array of vendors will take part, supplying everything from passive components to highly specialised sensors, OEM parts, machinery and software for both engineering and business applications. There will be not only a wide range of production machines on show, but also many consumables, labelling equipment, storage and handling systems, financial consultancy, transport services and other supporting essentials that every business needs. Those looking to source components will be

spoiled for choice. Take electrical connectors, for example. Advanced Chemical Etching, Aerco, Broadband Technology 2000, Cembre, CIE Electronics, Coax Connectors, Gem Cable Solutions, Hitaltech UK, ODU UK, Schurter, Selwyn Electronics, Shoal Group and TFC all offer them. Another example of strength in depth at the show is cables, including for applications in EV

charging, assemblies, looms, harnesses, jointing products, and design services. Many of the above companies offer such products, as well as Brady, Cableplus Europe, Convert, Corintech, Delta Impact, Easby Electronics, Electronic Manufacturing Solutions, Electronic Technicians, Emolice Contract Manufacturing Solutions, European Circuits, Gem Cable Solutions, Grinsty Rail, Hitaltech UK, InCap Electronics UK, Kabelschlepp Metool, K Lacey Cables, Micronel, Nemco, Phoenix Contact, Process Parameters, Shenzhen X-Mulong Circuit Co and Trojan Electronics 2018. Advanced Chemical Etching will focus on how

its expertise can help in the race for electrification and hydrogen fuel cell systems, so important in the development of energy management in existing and future electric vehicles. DMS Technologies also specialises in battery systems for a wide range of applications, including in extreme temperatures and rugged environments. Jauch Quartz UK will be promoting its battery

power supplies that it has been producing for mobile applications since 1974 at its headquarters in Villingen-Schwenningen, Germany and in its UK HQ in Frimley. Easby Electronics, a leading UK supplier and

distributor of electronic components, will present a vast range of products including custom batteries, power supplies, semiconductors, displays, passive components, opto-electronics, IoT devices and EV charging cables and accessories.

Meanwhile, Relec Electronics will exhibit its

range of AC/DC power supplies, display modules and electronic power supplies aimed at diverse applications including in the rail instrumentation, automotive, energy and medical sectors. Phoenix Dynamics designs and manufactures high- performance cable assemblies including wire and cable harnesses, battery cables, power leads, RF cables, fibre-optic assemblies, and electro- mechanical assemblies. Alongside the exhibition and demonstration

zones, over the three days there will be an extensive technical seminar programme, which will be especially strong this year. It will give visitors and exhibitors alike valuable learning opportunities, with a particular focus on the technical, managerial and environmental issues facing manufacturers today. There will be two programmes, one covering

electrical and electronic engineering and the other mechanical engineering, each taking place in different seminar rooms. Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2023

opens from February 7-9 and will co-locate again with AutoAero, a specialist theme within the exhibition devoted to aerospace and automotive engineering. There will be a regular, free bus service between

Farnborough’s Main and North Camp railway stations and the show. Admission and parking are also free of charge. More information and tickets are available from www.industrysouth.co.uk.
