2022 was a great year for innovation; Electrical Engineering looks at some of these products that will drive the sector forward in 2023
ABB’s CoriolisMaster flowmeter now certified for custody transfer
ABB’s CoriolisMaster flowmeter has received recognition for its high levels of accuracy, gaining custody transfer standards approval. The flowmeter now offers a new custody transfer
application approved under OIML R 117-1 and Wellmec standards and certified for the European Measuring Instruments Directive MID.1 Accuracy and reliable measurement are
paramount in the transfer of expensive commodities such as oil and gas. Custody transfer is a highly regulated area which falls under both international standards and regional regulations.
The CoriolisMaster certification complements
ABB’s Flow-X series of flow computers, a single hardware and software solution that connects to flowmeters, and to temperature, pressure and density transmitters as well as chromatographs to calculate the volume at standard conditions, mass and energy following international standards. The Flow-X aims for the highest precision to
protect the interest of buyer and seller. Its analogue inputs have an unmatched accuracy of 0.008 percent over a wide ambient temperature range.
EMKA’s theft- and fire-resistant emergency hammer for railway vehicles
The new emergency hammer from EMKA for railway vehicles is now also offered with integral theft resistance, and is compliant with DIN EN 45545-2 HL3. This robust product has been developed
specifically for rail vehicles where the safety demands are exceptionally high, including the need for the “little lifesavers”, so named because emergency hammers, in particular, help to save lives. The new hammer has also successfully passed
the impact test according to the Administrative Regulation for testing emergency entry and exit windows. To this end emergency hammers must not only
be effective when used by all types of people – it is also vital that they are present when required – which is why the integral anti-theft feature is so important. The engineering development team therefore
Cressall’s new load bank division
High power resistor manufacturer Cressall Resistors launched a new division specifically for its load bank range, Power Prove. Power Prove offers an extensive range of load bank designs,
competitive lead times and pricing, and enhanced features such as power measurement, data logging, remote control and multi-load bank networking. Its extensive range is suitable for a range of applications where generator testing, battery discharge testing or ballast load is required. The Power Prove range includes several products to suit a growing
demand for portable AC load bank solutions. The AC6 load bank, for instance, provides six kilowatts (kW) of load capacity with a manual control interface at a weight of just 12kg. Its compact design enables the AC6 to fit into site vans for easy travel to test locations. Additionally, the AC100-CPT is another lightweight ultra-portable
load bank that offers superior power density, with 100kW of load capacity at 31kg of weight.
Dirak hinged recessed handle from FDB Panel Fittings
FDB Panel Fittings launched a new Dirak Hinged Recessed Handle intended for use in special applications such as the construction of specialist road and rail vehicles, for example on storage lockers and access panels where its vibration-proof construction guards against nuisance opening. It is especially suited to these applications
because it offers a very low profile with a fully recessed oval handle which is self-returning to its recessed position after use.
16 ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING • DECEMBER 2022/JANUARY 2023 This spring return feature ensures that the
handle does not protrude and so eliminates the risk of persons or clothing being caught on the handle. The use of high-accuracy zinc-die casting ensures very close joins, which also prevents the build-up of dirt. Recessed handles are available from the FDB
Online Store for urgent delivery in chrome or black finish with or without a standard 8mm square insert lock as an integrated safety measure.
