JOSÉ CARLES
at Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP)
engineering diploma, business and engineering maths for A levels and then was excited joined Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) apprenticeship programme. Enabling him to continue to study and earn a wage – earn while you learn! The first year of the programme was full time at college, studying level 2 NVQ and Level 3 in engineering and maintenance. José successfully completed the work for year one quicker than anticipated, which resulted in being able to mentor one of my colleagues. Allowing him to keep up with the work assigned. This empowered José to seek out more opportunities to support and help others to succeed. After achieving all objectives set by his
W
mentors in his first year, José was brought onto a demanding project working with a major fast food chain. In just one year, José became certified by the manufacturer of the machines he was working with to a level four standard – reaching the same level as catering technicians with many years under their belts. José delivered his part of the project in full and on time, and was a major contributor to CCEP winning this external business’ Service Company of the Year award. Beyond this, José is admired for his hunger and capacity to shoulder extra work. This applies to his studies, where José completed an optional FGAS qualification, for which he received the near perfect score of 96 per cent. With the pass mark for this qualification just 75 per cent, this sets him apart as an exceptional young engineer. However, José goes the extra mile outside of the classroom and workshop, too. Recently, José travelled down to Southwark, London, to participate in the Millennial Safari –
ork experience with a local engineering company inspired José to pursue a career in engineering. He chose level 3
an international event hosted by CCEP that brings the companies brightest young sparks together. Here, José shared his experiences to help shape the trajectory of training programmes for other apprentices and reviewed the technologies CCEP works with throughout its business. The positive impact José has had on CCEP is far
more wide-ranging than simply the tasks he works on. Shortly after joining CCEP, José became a Tasty Careers Ambassador, working as the first point of contact for other young people thinking about the food and drinks industry. Now a regular speaker at skills and career Shows, José is proud to share advice and insights with those considering a career in engineering or taking on an apprenticeship.
