College invites employers to build the future, together
Northamptonshire’s construction sector is facing a familiar challenge. Demand for skilled workers remains high, projects continue to grow in scale and complexity, and businesses are under increasing pressure to attract and retain talent with the right skills. Against this backdrop, Northampton College is strengthening
its commitment to supporting employers and developing the workforce of the future through a range of new Skills Bootcamps, work placement opportunities and industry partnerships designed to respond directly to the needs of local businesses. The college has successfully secured funding from West
Northamptonshire Council to deliver a series of Skills Bootcamps through to March 2027, helping adults aged 19 and over gain industry-relevant skills and move quickly into employment. T e programmes include Entry to Construction, incorporating
CSCS Green Cards, Green Skills, Welding for Construction and ESOL in Warehousing. T e college is also partnering with SIMIAN Risk to deliver a Skills Bootcamp focused on Entry into Scaff olding. T ese short, intensive courses have been specifi cally designed
to address skills shortages while creating a direct pathway into employment for learners and a valuable recruitment pipeline for employers.
Jason Lancaster, Principal of Northampton College, believes
employer involvement is critical to the success of the initiative. He said: “Colleges have an important role to play in developing
skills, but the most successful programmes are those that are shaped and supported by employers. “T ese Skills Bootcamps have been designed to respond directly
to workforce needs across construction, engineering, logistics and green industries. By working closely with businesses, we can ensure learners gain the skills employers are looking for while helping companies access motivated individuals who are ready to enter the workforce.” T e Skills Bootcamps form part of a wider employer engagement
strategy that recognises the importance of collaboration between education and industry. Success is measured not only by learners completing their
training, but also by their progression into interviews, employment and sustained careers. Northampton College is seeking employers willing to offer interview opportunities, provide insight into current and future skills requirements and help shape training provision to refl ect real-world industry demands. For employers facing recruitment challenges, the benefi ts are
clear. Rather than competing for a limited pool of experienced workers, businesses have the opportunity to influence the development of new talent and create a pipeline of candidates equipped with the practical skills, industry knowledge and work- ready attitudes needed to succeed. Alongside the Skills Bootcamps, Northampton College is also
expanding opportunities for employers to engage through industry placements and workforce development initiatives.
