CELEBRATING
35 years Case studies Total Customer Commitment
When Shanghai was put into a strict Covid lockdown for five days, three Unipart Logistics colleagues volunteered to stay on site to process emergency requests for a key automotive customer. Unexpectedly, the Government then extended the lockdown indefinitely and the individuals ended up spending two months living in the Regional Distribution Centre (RDC). These Mark in Action winners behaved impeccably, learning to cope with the situation while providing an unprecedented service to our customer. Without the unbelievable effort from the team being onsite the RDC would have remained closed for over two months.
Quick Thinking
Steel sheets are an essential part of fuel tank manufacturing for our engineers at Unipart Powertrain Applications. When the hydraulic press failed at a third party supplier, our Mark in Action winner made a quick decision to find another supplier with a similar press in order to avoid production delays for our automotive customer. Our winner went the extra mile once he had found a new supplier by travelling to the site, rolling up his sleeves and assisting with the press operation through the night shift. Not only did he avoid a costly delay, he greatly enhanced our reputation with the customer!
Going Green
In an effort to reduce single use plastics for a major media customer, a team of Mark in Action winners from Unipart Logistics set about researching where and how plastics were used in the packing operation. The team worked across operations, commercial and finance to explore new solutions and develop ideas to get the best possible alternative. Through their passion and creativity our winners not only found solutions to share with other Unipart operations but delivered savings for the customer of over £700k!
Motorway Magic
A supplier’s lorry loaded with fuel line parts ran into difficulties on route from Poland to Oxford. The serious delay would have ultimately caused the production line to stop at one of our automotive clients. Our Polish-speaking Mark In Action winner, outside of her normal working day, contacted the driver by phone, intercepted the lorry in a motorway services area, decanted the essential parts to her own car and then drove them to Oxford to meet the impending deadline of 10 p.m. As a result, production continued with no delay.
Commitment to the Community
Two of our NHS Supply Chain drivers volunteered to work with local schools in their county to teach children about safety around large vehicles. Our Mark in Action winners took their lorry to each school and asked children, parents and teachers to stand around the truck and sit in the cab so they could see what visibility was like. This has a massive impact on adults and children alike and is one of those “skills for life” that children take through to their days as cyclists and later as drivers themselves.
A Horse Race
Sometimes Unipart people go beyond the call of duty outside of work. That was the case when one of our van drivers noticed that a group of people had gathered just off the road and were watching as a horse had fallen neck deep into a frozen pond. Our Mark in Action winner raced to the scene and worked out a way to pull the almost unconscious animal from the water. The animal survived the ordeal and the grateful owner and her father presented the nomination.
