CELEBRATING Dr John M. Neill CBE
We set our corporate goal for the Unipart Logo to become “The Mark of Outstanding Personal Customer Service”. To support that goal, we launched the “You Make the Difference” programme to teach all our colleagues to understand deeply what that goal meant in their day-to-day activities.
We believed that highly engaged, highly motivated colleagues were the key to creating the Unipart culture, and an essential part of this culture has been continuous learning and personal development.
Over the last 35 years I’ve had the privilege of attending every Mark in Action award ceremony and meeting the men and women who have made our corporate goal a reality. Their achievements are clear evidence of the importance of the agenda we set out when Unipart became a private company in 1987 following our management buyout.
We then had the opportunity to set our own agenda and create a strong culture that would differentiate our company for the long term. We knew that we could build long-term relationships with our customers by our fellow employees delivering exceptional service. That would become the foundation on which we would grow our business and achieve enduring competitive advantage.
In 1993 we created The Unipart U, the first corporate university in Europe, to enable our colleagues to gain the expertise to live by our philosophy. Today, The Unipart Way and our Gate to Great programme provide all employees with a way to continuously develop their knowledge, their skills, and the value they deliver for customers.
It
encourages curiosity to help grow and diversify our company into multiple sectors, multiple geographies, with multiple clients in multiple technologies.
Mark in Action winners are a clear example of how our colleagues live the Unipart philosophy. They have gone ‘above and beyond’ expectations in delivering personal customer service. They have played a key role in giving these new customers the confidence to place their business with us knowing that whatever it takes, we can rise to any challenge.
35 years
Our ceremonies have become an unmissable part of the Unipart calendar, with recipients often inviting family and friends to share in their achievements. Even the Covid-19 pandemic failed to put a stop to the programme, which continued online throughout lockdown.
I know from the many opportunities I have had to speak to our winners at the Mark in Action award ceremonies how much they value and appreciate winning this prestigious award. It has understandably become harder to win a Mark in Action award as the previous winners continuously raise the bar.
