Angela J. Davis presented a lecture on “Prosecutors and Race: Responsibility and Accountability” for
the Orlando State Attorney’s Office on November 11, 2022. She spoke at the virtual teach-in on the murder of Tyre Nichols on January 30, 2023, at AUWCL. She was interviewed by
Faculti.net on “Policing the Black Man: Arrest, Prosecution, and Imprisonment.”
Robert Dinerstein presented a lecture virtually on “The Right to Legal Capacity and Supported
Decision Making at the University of Pretoria, Centre for Human Rights, Advanced Human Rights Course: Disability Rights in an African Context” on March 7, 2023. He has been a member of the ABA Working Group on Adult Guardianship Reform: An ABA Impact Dialogue, ABA Section of Civil Rights & Social Justice since December 2022. Bob is a co-chair of a subcommittee on the ad hoc group led by the Elder Affairs Committee of the ABA Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice to examine issues of guardianship reform. He published an article in December 2022 titled “Impact of the Dobbs Decision on Prenatal Disability Education and Support” in the Journal of Human Exceptionality, Journal of American Academy of Developmental Medicine & Dentistry (AADMD). He presented to the ABA Board of Governors Profession, Public Service and Diversity (PPSD) Committee on Disability and DEI on January 25, 2023. Bob held a presentation on Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and Anti-Institutionalization
before the ADA at the AALS Disability Law Section Panel on the 50th Anniversary of Section 504, AALS Annual Meeting in San Diego, California, on January 6, 2023. He presented with Caroline Wick on “Overview of IDEA, Rehab Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act” at the Children’s National Hospital, Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) Didactic Program in Silver Spring, Maryland, on November 30, 2022. He presented the closing keynote, “Significant Developments in Mental Health Law,” at the National Association for Rights Protection and Advocacy (NARPAS) Annual Rights Conference in Newark, New Jersey, on October 29, 2022. Bob was a panelist along with Elliot Milstein and Ann Shalleck on “Fiſty Years of Clinical Legal Education at American University Washington College of Law: The Evolution of a Movement in Theory, Practice, and People” for the 50 and Forward: Celebrating 50 Years of the AUWCL Clinical Program on October 28, 2022. He gave remarks regarding the effect of the Dobbs decision on people with disabilities on behalf of ABA CDR before the American Bar Association, Law, Society, and the Judiciary Task Force on the Virtual Open Forum on October 27, 2022. He gave a presentation on “Lawyers with Disabilities” with Brandon Lee Wolff, at the DEI Lunch and Learn Series, Cohen and Wolf, PC on October 26, 2022. Bob gave his opinion in the Bloomberg Law News article titled “Modern Laws and Out-of-Court Solutions Can Advance Guardianship” as part of Bloomberg Law’s multipart investigation of adult guardianship. In April, several professors were honored with Faculty Awards for their exceptional contributions to scholarship, teaching, and service.
Pauline Ruyle Moore Scholars, established to recognize outstanding scholars in the area of public law: Professors Ezra Rosser and Lewis A. Grossman.
Edwin A. Mooers Scholars, established to recognize a faculty member in any area of law: Professors Priya Baskaran and Brandon Weiss.
Excellence in Teaching Award, which recognizes outstanding teaching, as reflected by thoughtful pedagogy, commitment to student mentoring and advising, institutional leadership focused on improving the variety, quality, and rigor of teaching and/or the creation of an intellectually challenging classroom environment: Professor Hilary Allen.
Outstanding Service Award, which recognizes a faculty member’s outstanding service either outside or within the law school or university: Professor Binny Miller.
Adjunct Teaching Award, which recognizes outstanding teaching, thoughtful pedagogy, committed student mentoring, or exceptional creativity and innovation in instruction by a member of the adjunct faculty: Professor Anjali Prakash.
Innovation in Pedagogy Award, which recognizes exceptional creativity and innovation in instruction: Professor Susan Franck.
