AUWCL Celebrates Excellent Staff

American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) recently held its annual end-of-year outing, a time to celebrate and recognize the hard work and dedication of its staff members. The event featured the presentation of the AUWCL Excellence and Creativity Awards, which honored five outstanding staff members who have made significant contributions to the law school.

United States Vanita Gupta In April, the American University Journal of Gender, Social Policy and the Law hosted a symposium in collaboration with the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia on legal issues that impact women of color and the unique challenges that women of color attorneys face in the legal profession. US Associate General Vanita Gupta joined Dean Roger A. Fairfax Jr. for a fireside chat during the event.


The Creative Proposal Award is presented to the individual who, in their office, presented an important,


meaningful and innovative idea: Asha Scielzo.


The Outstanding AUWCL Staff Member Award is for the individual AUWCL staff member who has been extraordinarily dedicated, creative, and effective in the performance of their duties: Geneva Walker.


The Outstanding Teamwork and Creativity by an Office, Department, or Program Award is presented to the office, department, or program that contributed to AUWCL in the most creative and exceptionally


effective manner in the performance of their duties: The Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD) Employer Relation Team of Raquel Skinner, Sam Chaplin,


and Rachel Cara.

US Ambassador to India Richard Verma On April 24, the AUWCL South Asian Law Students Association hosted an engaging and informative discussion with Richard Verma ’93, who was recently confirmed as the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, and formerly served as the US Ambassador to India.


“The hard work and dedication demonstrated by our staff are the driving force behind the success of AUWCL,” said Dean Roger A. Fairfax Jr. “We are privileged to have such exceptional individuals and teams working tirelessly to support our students and faculty.
