However, the evolution of the “Latin rave” has not been an easy path. Iñigo reflects on his early days in underground parties, where production was minimal and audio systems left much to be desired. But within that rawness, he finds an indescribable beauty, an intimate connection between the audience and the music that transcends technical limitations.
“Many of the parties where I grew up playing were underground parties, with very
production and very bad audio systems,” recalls Iñigo. “However, there is an indescribable beauty in experiencing all this up close. And above all, the passion and energy with which the audience engages is something worth experien- cing.”
Despite technical shortcomings, the Latin electronic scene has thrived, finding its voice in imperfection and celebrating the cultural richness of the region.
“Latin electronic music is imperfect compared to German techno, but it is full of flavor and soul,” affirms Iñigo.
From the sound systems of the streets of Mexico to legendary dance venues like Patrick Miller in Mexico City, the history of the “Latin rave” is woven with threads of tradition and unbridled passion.
“Perhaps we don’t have emblematic parties like the Love Parade in Mexico, but the dance culture has been present for many
years.”
INFLUENCE OF LATIN AMERICAN ORIGIN ON CREATIVE PERSPECTIVE
From the bustling streets of Mexico to the remotest corners of South America, the chaos and diversity of everyday life have left an indelible mark on Iñigo’s psyche, infusing his creativity with frenetic energy and vibrant visual aesthetics.
“With all this imagery in my head, I have created a sonic and visual world where I have understood my very own way of making music in a chaos that works,” he reveals.
This fusion of chaos and creativity is clearly reflected in Iñigo’s music, where intricate rhythms and sonic textures intertwine in a whirlwind of eclectic and exciting sounds. But beyond the composition itself, Iñigo’s unique perspective on life and the world is reflected in each of his sets, infusing his energy with a sense of alertness and acute awareness.
“The way we face life keeps us alert in general, that state of alertness also makes a difference in my sets, and the energy I have is reflected in them.”
