A pesar de los desafíos de gestionar un sello independiente, Iñigo y su equipo han encontrado un equilibrio para lanzar de 3 a 4 vinilos al año, manteniendo la autenticidad y la calidad como prioridades.
“Tener un sello independiente que imprime en vinilo siempre será un desafío hoy en día ya que el consumo de la música en su mayoría es digital”, comenta.
“Sin embargo, hemos encontrado el equilibrio para poder imprimir 3 o 4 releases al año y que sea sostenible. Además de eso siempre en busca de artistas con propuestas interesantes y auténticas que justifiquen el esfuerzo para llevar todo esto a cabo. Creo que hoy en día para mi lo más im- portante de tener un sello es encontrar un nicho particular y un sonido único”.
Mirando hacia el futuro, tanto Iñigo como Calypso Records tienen grandes proyectos en mente.
“Actualmente estoy
mi carrera como artista a nivel internacional y llevar mi discurso a todo el mundo”, afirma Iñigo.
“Este año tengo varios releases en puerta como el Multi Culti otro en Optimo y otro en Internacio- nal de Prins Thomass. A principio de año saqué un track en Crosstown Rebels de Damián Lazarus y otro en Core Recs el sello de Tomorrowland; además, estoy terminando mi segundo álbum para que vea la luz a finales de este año y varios otros EPs por confirmarse. También estamos terminando un par de EPs con mi proyecto que tengo con Concret ‘The Diyeis’ y seguirnos con los releases mensuales en Bandcamp. Sumado a todo esto tengo varias fiestas ‘Calypso Cvlt’ en puerta con las residencias en México y otras internacionales. Calypso Records, por su parte, vienen también varios releases en puerta y el próximo es de Simple Symmetry con remixes de Iván Smagghe & Cross, Odopt y mío”.
Finalmente, Iñigo reflexiona sobre el impacto cultural y social de la música electrónica en México y América Latina en general.
“Hoy en día la música electrónica tiene un gran peso mucho más fuerte que el de las bandas de rock o a veces el pop”, expresa.
“Eso implica que en la mayoría de centros de consumo hay djs tocando música electrónica, y eso ha influenciado el entorno social. Las fiestas masivas de electrónica en Tulum para 30,000 personas o más o fiestas más pequeñas privadas están sucediendo todos los fines de semana y la oferta es muy grande y eso ha hecho que cada vez se abran más clubs con estas propuestas. Y no solo eso sino que en México hay clubs por todo el país no solo en las principa- les ciudades y es un gran momento para la música electrónica. Definitivamente esto tiene un impac- to fuerte en la sociedad y se tiene que tomar con responsabilidad y conciencia de tratar de generar espacios seguros en todos los sentidos para que sea una escena saludable y sostenible para todos”.

Despite the challenges of running an independent label, Iñigo and his team have found a balance to release 3 to 4 vinyl records a year, maintaining authenticity and quality as priorities.
“Having an independent label that prints on vinyl will always be a challenge today since most music consumption is digital,” he comments.
“However, we have found the balance to be able to print 3 or 4 releases a year and make it sustainable. Besides that, always looking for artists with interesting and authentic proposals that justify the effort to carry all this out. I think that today for me the most important thing about having a label is to find a particular niche and a unique sound.”
Looking to the future, both Iñigo and Calypso Records have big projects in mind.
“I am currently focused on consolidating my career as an artist internationally and taking my message to the whole world,” says Iñigo.
“This year I have several releases pending such as the one on Multi Culti, another on Optimo, and another on Prins Thomass’ Internacional. At the beginning of the year, I released a track on Damián Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels and another on Core Recs, Tomorrowland’s label; besides, I am finishing my second album to be released at the end of this year and several other EPs to be confirmed. We are also finishing a couple of EPs with my project I have with Concret ‘The Diyeis’ and continuing with the monthly releases on Bandcamp. In addition to all this, I have several ‘Calypso Cvlt’ parties lined up with residencies in Mexico and other international ones. Calypso Records, on the other hand, there are several releases coming up and the next one is from Simple Symmetry with remixes by and mine.”

Finally, Iñigo reflects on the cultural and social impact of electronic music in Mexico and Latin America in general.
“Nowadays, electronic music has a much stronger influence than rock bands or sometimes pop,” he expresses.
“This implies that in most consumption centers, there are DJs playing electronic music, and that has influenced the social environment. Massive electronic music parties in Tulum for 30,000 people or more or smaller private parties are happening every weekend, and the offer is very large, and that has made more and more clubs open with these proposals. And not only that, but in Mexico, there are clubs all over the country, not only in the main cities, and it is a great moment for electronic music. Definitely, this has a strong impact on society and it has to be taken with responsibility and awareness of trying to generate safe spaces in all senses so that it is a healthy and sustainable scene for everyone.”
