The Blues entered the ■

game with the best away record of any side'iri the botv ; tom half of the Evo-Stik First

ough welcomed Simon Gar ner’s men to their temporary Queensgate home, with youth team captain Ryan Cattermole on the bench and Tom Jack- son on the team sheet for the first time. Clitheroe had a makeshift

centre back pairing of Seydou Bamba and Laquan Esdaille,

. and within six minutes the Blues were behind, with Peter Collinge beaten by Scarbor ough captain Gary Bradshaw’s

side again had the ball in the net as a Matty Plummer head er rocketing into Collinge’s goal, only to be adjudged off side.

. Bradshaw spotted the ball, but Collinge dived to his left to make a magnificent save. However, as the Blues

the home side a comfortable lead at the break. The second half saw the Shawbridge side limiting

. Scarborough to very little as they kept things tight, al though it was Scarborough who came closest to scoring, Corner’s strike smartly tipped onto the bar by Collinge. The Blues had to wait till

the 89th minute before they were allowed a decent chance, as a long throw was flicked on and Ross Dent found himself in front of Cracknel!, nudg

to bring his side back into the game. . Five minutes of added time

followed with one last chance for the Blues, a corner falling at the far post met the head of Esdaille, only to go just over the bar. The result leaves Simon

Garner’s men in 12th, five points away from Mossley in 10th while dropping behind Lancaster City.

Rimington............. ..............A Feniscowles.......... ....... ;.......1

Rimington maintained their push towards the East Lan cashire League title with a comfortable victory against Feniscowles. They should have taken an

early as Lloyd met a Sargeson corner but headed over. Another corner was half-

cleared to Sargeson, and his volley was arrowing towards the far corner when a defend er managed to deflect it just wide. . On 20 minutes, another

flag kick brought the opener as Lloyd headed back for Bagot

• to nod home. The visitors rallied and

Hickling bravely charged down a fierce drive from 25 yards, and then Conti sprinted down the left before shooting

just past a post. Hickling’s cross-field pass

found Sargeson, who struck another volley just wide be fore Feniscowles had their best chance of the half as Ker shaw brilliantly pushed a shot to his left, and then reacted quickly to beat a forward look ing to force the ball home. On 35 minutes, Sarge

son reached the bye-line and pulled the ball back to Dins-

dale, but the keeper made a smart save to keep him out. Moments later, Conti was

played in to coolly slot in for 2-0.. It was no surprise that

another goal came before half-time, with Hickling’s in swinging cornermet by Bagot . to head in his second. Feniscowles came out for

the second half in determined fashion, but Bagot should have

.grabbed his hat-trick on 50 minutes, Lloyd heading a free • kick to him, but he was unable to get the ball on target. Rimington added a fourth when Sargeson cleverly found

Hickling with a low corner, Hickling clipping it into Lloyd to volley home. The visitors pulled one

back from the spot after Ker shaw clattered a forward, but. Dan Blackburn almost ex tended the lead tvvice late on. Boss Terry Braithwaite

said: “Once we started play ing with pace and tempo we looked good. All we can do is keep winning to keep us in with a chance of more silver ware.” Thanks to match sponsors

Maroons star in home win against

Clitheroe RUFC Under14s welcomed Garstang in the f irst ofa double header o f games in consecutive weeks.

The home team have been developing their play well through the season, despite coming up against some strong opposition. Garstang kicked off and

the visibility was just good enough in the freezing con ditions to see Clitheroe take the ball well. Some quick in ter play and thinking by the home side led to Max Car rington streaking away to score a super try, his first of two in the game with the last coming in the last minutes. After a frenetic open

ing few minutes, the game settled into a good contest. B oth sides were throwing the ball out wide, and defences weren’t strong enough to re pel such attacking creativity. That said, Smith and

Barraclough stood up well in both defence and attack, helping to create good ruck ball and Clitheroe’s continu ity in attack. On 10 minutes Clitheroe

marched up field and were awarded a penalty 10 yards out. Captain Wilkinson caught the defence napping a scurried over to score a sec- ondtry. Garstang hit back before thebreakwhentheyscoreda

converted try to keep it close at 10-7.

■ And the visitors took .complete control of the sec- ond third and scored two more tries to have a com- mandingi7-ioleadgoinginto the last session of play. Clitheroe knew they had

to leave nothing on the field in the final 17 minutes, and let no-one down with an ex- ® emplary application of what they’ve been learning on the training pitch. • They were communica tive and daring in defence and scything and efficient in * attack, running the ball out wide at every opportunity. First Wilkinson scored,

■ followed quickly by McLeod, who ran an excellent line be fore outsprinting the scram- • bling defence. Next saw Hamlet cap a *

overall good performance with a well-earned try, be fore Carrington showed a clean pair ofheels once more to score his second. Garstang were unlucky '

not to score in the dying minutes, the pacy left wing er knocking on over the line. Man of the match was-

Jack Pimbley, a full back who _ plays like someone of much ® greater stature. His tackling was immense. Another Clitheroe victo

ry, thistimeawayatGarstang will be difficult, but not im possible for this side.
