Daniel sang the praises
of Clitheroe, which is home to many small independent shops opened by self-starters who have made the decision to pursuetheirbusinessdreams. He believes the mentor ing scheme, which is to be the
legacy of Enterprising People, will fill a gap in the market, so people who have a business ideacangetthesupportneeded to help make it a reality. “I am very analytical and ■
not necessarily a risk taker by ' nature. I evaluate everything before I do something an d : plan thoroughly. I am happy to help others with their plans too,” said Daniel. “This is a great place to set
up a mentoring scheme.” •

J: Sub aqua members raise £2,200 for hospice
Ribble Valley Sub Aqua Club hasraisedastaggering £2,200for Pendleside Hospice through a series of creative diving challenges.
The club decided to raise funds for the hospice in memory of a former member, Duncan Priestley, who passed away at the hospice last year. In October, members of
the diving club completed an arrayofunderwateractivities atCapernwrayDivingCentre, in Carnforth. These included an underwater gym session, fruit- and sausage eating ' contests and a giant game of draughts and charades. The club also held an-
underwater treasure hunt in December.
_ Joan Priestley, Duncan’s
wife, said: “I would like to say thank you to everyone at the Ribble Valley Sub Aqua Club for their fantastic support. I feel very humbled by their efforts in memory of Duncan. “Also thank you to every one who donated towards the

cause, making it a great suc cess. Duncan and I actually got married in the hospice and the lengths the staff went to, and the care they gave, was incredible.” Fiona Imlach, a member
of
the.sub aqua club, said: “Duncan was a prominent ’ character and full offun, so when he left us we decided there was no better way to honour his memory than to
have a couple of crazy fun days diving in Capernwray to raise money for the hospice that helped make his last days more comfortable.” • Anyone interested in
joining the club or having a try dive can go along to Rib blesdale Pool any Thursday at 9 pm. The club has have spare equipment and diving suits. Or for more information call Fiona Imlach on 07764316830.
Young singers and queen of cards thrilled Lady Farmers
Clitheroe Lady Farmers met earlier than usual in Decem ber for their Christmas party,
whenawonderftdeveningwas had by all. • It began with a beautiful choral performance by some - of the children from Ribbles- dale School choir, who per formed some well known Christmas songs. ~ _ Members were very grate-
ul for the choir giving up their line in the evening to enter-
ain and put everyone in the estive spirit:
The choir, under the guid
ance of its leader, gave a very individual interpretation of songs old and new. Lady Farm ers president Sarah Hartley also expressed thanks to par ents who had transported the children to the venue. After the choir’s perform-^
ance a three-course Christ mas supper was followed by members having a go at mak ing their own festive cards, ably directed and assisted by guest speaker Tracey Ankers. At first members were a bit
concerned at having to take on the challenge of making some thing; but Tracey had taken the time to prepare a small bag for each member with all the paper cut out ready, so the ladies would have time to com plete their cards. Much hilarity and chat
tering accompanied the card making and everyonewas very impressed with the outcome. A big thank you goes out"
to Tracey for a thoroughly enjoyable second half o f the evening.
