Residents urged to use emergency

services appropriately this winter Residents across the Ribble Valley are being urged to use emergency services appro priately this winter. Many people attend ur

gent services when it is un necessary and they could be better treated elsewhere, which during the winter sea son can put extra demands on already pressured emer gency departments; V Doctors from NHS East

Lancashire Clinical Com missioning Group (CCG) are asking local residents

to Think! before attending their nearest emergency de partment or urgent care cen tre. If someone is seriously ill or injured, and their life is at risk then 999 should be called in any such situation. An emergency is a criti

cal or a life-threatening sit uation, such as suspected heart attack, chest pain, unconsciousness, heavy blood loss, suspected bro ken bones, deep wounds, se vere breathing difficulties or headinjuries.

free. There was a children’s craft corner and a treasure hunt.

w On the Wednesday after

noon Key Stage 2 children from both St Johns and St Pe ters held a joint carol service attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of the Ribble Valley, Coun. Richard Sherras and Mrs Lynne Pate. The Mayor read the first lesson and chil dren from both schools read the subsequent lessons. Well known carols were

sung between the readings and the vicar, the Rev. Dr Alan Sowerbutts, gave the final address and blessing. In the evening, a nativity

service was held in a barn at Houlkers Farm Whins Lane, attended by the Bishop of Burnley. On the Thursday after

noon, key stage one children from both schools enjoyed the performance in church ofRoly Bain, a professional clown and vicar.

He was making a welcome return after his popular per-

•' formanceatlast year’s festival. A proficient juggler, conjurer and slapstick artist, he had everyone in'church - includ ing the adults - clamouring for more.' Friday afternoon was busy

s erving “After no on Tea”, com plete with background music from a professional pianist. Saturday a f te rn o on ’s

concert included hand bell ringing, one of the highlights being the number of volun teers who wanted to try their hand at this, which apparently is not as easy as it looks. Sunday morning began

with a Messy Christmas serv ice led by the Sunday Praise team, and in the evening it was carols around the crib, with standing room only. Then everyone was invited

to see the fireworks display on the school field sponsored by Fort Vale Engineering, of Simonstone.
