SabdenFC Sabden FC suffered the de­ spair of relegation last Sunday despite scoring six goals in their home match against , ^ Chucky Padlham Warriors. Despite never being behind in the game itendedina6-6 scoreline with the visitors sneaking an equaliser in the last minute. WIU Child scored an impressive hat-trick and other goals came from Jason Bates, David Fallon and Jack Birkett. But a draw was not enough to save them from rel­ egation in Division One of the Burnley Sunday League.


Valuation day Last Saturday’s v5 uation day in St Maty’s Hall was a huge success - in fact too successftd because there was not enough time to deal with all the people who went along despite the event runmng more than four hours over the intended time. 1 So many people went along with their items to discuss or have valued by Mr Phil Cowell from Walton and Walton Auctioneers and Valuers in Burnley that the day proved very eryoyable with most people not minding having a, long wait. Walton and Walton are keen to cqme back and have another valuation day in the autumn. People took along clocks, jewellery, painting, crockeity, furniture, in fact all ■ sort of items to discuss and many went away very happy. No one a toitted their item was worth millions but you never know! Mr Cowell said he had really enjoyed the day, see­ ing so many interesting items and meeting so many nice peo­ ple. Three Peaks walkers Agroup ofintrepid char­ ity walkers from the village braved the bitter cold and biting wind on Pendle Hill on Sunday morning to take in a 11.5 mile practice walk before they undertake the York­ shire Three Peaks Challenge next month. They left from Padiham Road at 7 a.m. and walked up “Bonk Hill” onto the top of Pendle and along to Barley where they had a short break before walking back up the Steps and back over to Sabden for lunchtime. About 20peopleofall ages went along. More than 30 are to undertake the real thing on the May bank holiday weekend. Lee Skellern acted as guide having already tried and tested the route which is fairly tough and incorporates many walking conditions that will be faced on the challenge. Sponsors are wanted for the challenge, in aid ofthe North West Air Ambulance, and you can sponsor individually or go on the Sabden Live justgiving website or on Facebook.

BuyATile Sabden artist Lizi Botham (Bizi Lizi) is helping St Nicho­ las’s Church by creating a tiled scene ofthe church against the backdrop of Pendle Hill . and inviting villagers to be involved. The work will be made up of 240 4in. ceramic tiles and people can “buy” one for £10 and have their name, initials etc etched onto it. The work will then go on perma­ nent display in the church when it reopens in the autumn after an extensive refurbish­ ment and repair. Women’s Institute The March meeting was held in the Methodist school- . room. Guest speaker Sheila Bailey, who was assisted by Ann Geldard, told of their trip to India, their visit to a leper colony and the work an English woman was doing there to make life better for the women. Sheila and Ann have started selling some of the beautiful embroidered garments made by the women in the colony. President Doreen Hammond opened the April meeting and introduce Eddie, a serwng police officer, who talked


about life as a member of the terrorist police. Members etyoyed a day trip , to Chetham’s School of Music. After having lunch they at­ tended a recital by some of the students. A guide took mem­ bers on a tour of the buildings and a visit to the library, which is one of the oldest public library in Europe. On Saturday, May 4th, members are manning a stall at Clitheroe market, selling cakes, biscuits, home-riiade produce and bric-a-brac. The next meetingis on May 14th, when Sheena Byrom, will speak about her book “Catch­ ing Babies”. The meeting is open one so members wiU be delighted to welcome guests.
