THE uplifting and authentic sound of New Orleans jazz brought svyeat and swagger to Clitheroe's Grand Theatre with The Hot 8 Brass Band in incendiaiy form, writes Tony Dewhurst. On a whistle-stop tour of Northern England, The Hot 8
Hot date with the Hot 8
brought the heat of Louisiana to the chilly Ribble Valley . with their own brassy blend of soul, funk, hip-hop and the traditional American jazz
, groove. Filling the theatre with a street party atmosphere. Hot 8 earned their keep the old fashioned way through graft
and infectious musical energy, mopping at their brows with beach towels between trombone blasts, wailing trumpets and the steady beat of the bass drum. They cleverly added Latin •
flavours to Basement jaxx's Bingo Bango, blew hot jazz
on steaming Blues and their mighty singalong version of The Specials' Ghost Town was given a riotous re-fit. Manager of Hot 8, Paddy
McPoland, said; "Clitheroe was the wildest crowd on the tour Hot 8 loved coming to Lancashire."

CLITHEROE Concerts Society staged another highly successful concert when cellist Gemma Rosefield and violinist Ben Nabarro played an unusual but highly attractive programme for these two instruments, writes Ken Ceddes.
. Mozart wrote twb duos for vjolin and viola, transcribing them
for violin and cello himself. The earlier one opened the concert and was followed by the rather more demanding Ravel "Duo" written in the memory of Debussy. This was published in 1922 and features the two instruments as- independent voices, sometimes beautifully coordinated and sometimes at odds,

CLITHEROE DJ David Tupling has organised a special show at The Grand in aid of his best friend Sargeant Rick Clement, from Chatbum,
who lost both legs in an explosion while serving in Afghanistan. Tupling (pictured right), Tim Toil - a regular at
- the Beat Herder Festival - Hollywood Hills and Craig C are all playirig for free, raising money for Rick's charity, A Soldier's journey. "We've been lifelong friends since we were at Chatbum Primary School together and Rick is
- one of the most inspirational people I've ever met," said David. "He has fought back from a life-changing injury and he's such an inspiration to so many people, and what he has achieved
, since the accident is truly remarkable." Rick had been serving in Helmand Province,
Afghanistan, for less than a month when he was almost killed in the explosion. David, who has been a Dj since 1995, added:
"I want to use my music connections to help create awareness of Rick's charity work. Also, he has proved that people can still live life to the full following a terrible accident like this. He has just returned from Australia where he swam with sharks. Rick is in great spirits and I know he has a
lot more challenges lined up." David said he is hoping for a sellout crowd at
The Grand, and said: "The Grand is a brilliant venue and the people of the Ribble Valley have always supported Rick. The show is to try and raise as much money as possible for his charity, but it is also a celebration of Rick's bravery. "It is a wonderful gesture that evetybody is playing for free and Rick is very grateful."
