A CONCERT to raise money for the Spire Rebuild Fund at Clitheroe Parish Church will be staged at The Grand next weekend. STA Promotions, in association
with Valley Gigs and The Grand, has organised for the ■ Spire-Aid concert to take place on Saturday January 19th. Two bands will headline
the event - Clitheroe's Drop the Floor, a very high energy traditional and contemporary acoustic Celtic band, and one of the North-West's finest country rock and blues bands. The Witnesses. Supporting these two great
bands is one Clitheroe's best up-and-coming young singers/ guitarists, Jordan Ferguson,. who plays acoustic guitar and sings with great skill and passion. The whole event is being
compered by BBC Radio Lancashire's Phil Brown, who hosts the folk and roots music programme "The Drift." Other attractions include a

www.valleygigs.co.uk) and St Mary's Centre. All proceeds will be donated
to the Spire Rebuild Fund. The project to repair and
rebuild Clitheroe's Parish Church Spire begaii in 2009 after the detection of corroding and expanding iron "dog cramps" set within the masonry of the spire walls, which caused the stones to crack and in some cases fall off the spire - a serious hazard to both the church and members of the public! Dismantling of the spire
commenced in March 2012 and te rebuild was completed just before Christmas. The need to carry out
additional repair work and the replacement of masonry once
all was dismantled, along with it being the wettest summer on record, has left the parish with a significant funding shortfall. It is hoped the forthcoming
concert will assist in meeting this shortfall in advance of the church and spire re-dedication on February 10th. The project's architect Steve
Burke saird: "Local businesses are rallying round and providing some varied and
special prizes to be raffled on the evening. • "This event will provide the opportunity for the whole community to support the parish and their commitment to see one the town's major landmarks repaired and retained for future generations to appreciate."
