READS SIMONSTONE
Moving carol At the recent concert given by the Readstone Singers at St John’s Church, Read, as a prelude to Christmas, the choir gave a varied
■ and fun programme of Christmas songs, both popular and celebra tory. One such carol was the Stalag 18A carol which was written by villager Ann Stevenson as a tribute to her late father who was a POW there during the Sec ond World War. Ann’s poem was set to music by the Rev. Alan Sow- erbutts, from St John’s and was performed for the first time by the choir. It is a beautiful uplifting carol and it was a joyful experience to sing. The concert included Rudolph and Santa Baby and audi ence participation with well known favourites such as Come All Ye Faithful and Hark The Herald Angels Sing. There were also some festive readings from members of the choir interspersed through the programme. The audience were offered sheny and mince pies at the end of the concert.
