Walkers' efforts worth taking your hat off to *

FIFTY-FIVE walkers and six dogs .braved the cold weather to take part in the 17th annual Whalley Walk and Ri-

;; diculous Hat Competition. ■ - . Although the weather was dry with little . wind, the footpaths were extremely muddy due, to the rain, so the walkers did well to . complete the six-miie circular walk.

- . As is the tradition, the walkers stopped for i a well-earned drink and a rest at The Game

. . .0)ck Inn, Great Harwood, before continu- :, ing back to Whalley via The Nab.

i eluding many that were home-made, for the competition. , • .

As usual, many walkers wore silly hats, in-

:. ton, who sported a red nose and antlers. In . .the adult category, the winners were hus band and wife couple Shaun and Helen Fen- ton, of Darweh; Shaun wore.a home-made ? ;•> Christmas cakei while Helen donned a hat

In the children’s category, the top prize was won by Alissa Darbyshire, of New Lxjng-

comprising cuddly woollen Christmas toys. A collection was held and this raised £104 for.the Bethany Project; - ' •
